Case in point for my comment on the TOS from earlier with the two replies above.

Chatting would exist in boring or exciting content.
I mean Eureka back then was full of it and spawning the bosses was far frome engaging to a point where the chatting WAS the charm point.

I also saw a shift tbh. Less hello's, insta pulling tanks without any concern for others or simply saying nothing.
The ToS has nothing to do with that because frankly, as long as you act as a decent human being, GM's won't go after you.

I think it's simply a matter of the community itself changing and experience bias.
Most people still do greet and say GG but the ones who don't stick more.
But also the community is far bigger than in the past (well the distant past) and less close knit.
Everyone seems to be in a rush, everything is on discord nowadays and the MMO social function is simply outdated.

I think times have simply changed. Everyone is in a hurry nowadays in-game as well as outside.
I hate that trend but I don't think we can change it other than simply continuing to say "hello" and so on.
Chatting was part of the Eureka experience because people had nothing else to do during the lulls of the content. They specifically gathered there and a lot of veterans that liked eureka (I didn't, before you point a finger at me), specifically quote the "working together to make something happen, and having to plan around it to make it a possibility". Because it required the whole area to coordinate on what was being farmed and spawned at most times. It also meant sharing trackers later on when people started making websites for it. That's something I do respect out of Eureka, if nothing else.

I don't think it's the boredom, it's just that some pieces of content ask for people to talk before engaging with it, and some don't. Do we want XIV to be all of one or the other? I don't know. Deep dungeon for example has potential to do more than just dungeons, and I've found that the social experience tends to be radically different if one actually joins or makes PFs for it, rather than rng matched parties. At least in my experience.

    That player:

During my wow days we had this woman in our Guild who was extremely quiet and mostly had her husband speak on her behalf and anytime you try to talk to her she would get annoyed and I'm sure some players act the same way.

At the end of the day, some people just hate interacting with others and you shouldn't always expect someone to say hi or bye In a dungeon because you don't know that player or if they're going through something and just don't wanna talk.
I feel that you're slightly shifting around my comments, which have never been about pointing fingers at people's rights or social expectations. Still, in real life, when someone says hello or good day to you, you generally tend to answer, just saying. I can understand disliking social interaction though, so I'm not there making threads to smite people that don't reply to polite greetings or whatever.

One of the largest problems in MMOs today, XIV most def included, is that there is simply no need to talk to other ppl for 99% of the game. Back in older mmos you simply had to speak with others, work well with others, and play nice with others to get almost anything done. However, in today's world, these companies are doing absolutely everything they can do make the entire game accessible to everyone from the most hardcore and dedicated players to those who simply want to log in and (in XIV's case) sit in LL doing diddly but still want to feel powerful and have access to absolutely everything the game offers. These are also usually the ppl who throw toddler like tantrums and scream about elitism if they can't have everything instead of simply accepting the fact that maybe the best gear is simply out of their reach which is fine since they do not really need it anyway. Cause why do you need the bis gear when you aren't actively using it anyway. But, much like a screaming toddler, even one is really hard to ignore. (We had these ppl in old mmos too. I remember getting nasty tells from ppl who thought I was showing off simply for having my Mandau equipped and daring to stand in Jeuno. "Stop showing off you stupid elitest" it was like whaaat?)

One of the byproducts of this need to please absolutely everyone, is that these MMOs are being turned into mostly solo experiences. Instead of easing the rediculous grinds that could take months, they went the Oprah route of "You get the Loot! You get the loot! EVERYBODY GETS THE EPIC LOOTS!" and to do this they simply made the games easy enough that nearly everything can be solo'd, if not now, then in a few months or doing things like mog tome events that give out things. That simply means guilds are mostly dead, it's nearly impossible to keep raid groups together and there is little incentive to talk and make friends. Which made mmos become coops where the overworld is simply a lobby.

Then to add insult to injury, games like XIV simply do not have content with a long enough shelf life to keep playing it. And if there is little reason to play it there is little reason to make friends to tackle it. So with content being dumbed down and already barely worth completing or farming after a couple weeks why bother sustaining a group, making friends or even try to be social?

I for one would love to have a reason to open my guild and spend all the time and energy it takes to run a successful and busy one, like I had in XI, with ppl I met in game still talk to to this day 20 years later. But in games like this, it's simply a waste of time.
