WHY?!
I'm having a blast with Pilgrim's Traverse by the way. Fun dungeon design. Progression is fast, so my friends are playing it with me. One of them is extra motivated by the new Quantum at the end. Good rewards. Adding it to the weekly challenge log is huge. So are matched parties and more checkpoints. So many good things were done with this content.
Complaining about an achievement that I don't even want seems pointless. But 30,000 hoard is so crazy that it almost cancels out the good stuff they did. It's like the devs do things randomly and carelessly, and it's luck if it works out.
And yes, the devs should know. The feedback for 20,000 hoard was overwhelmingly negative in Endwalker.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The math:
Forget everything you've heard about levequests. The 20,000 accursed hoard achievement is already the longest achievement grind in the game. The levequests are time-gated, but fast. The PvP achievements take more playtime.
If you play 10 floors of any deep dungeon you should get an average of 2.5 accursed hoard. (This is an anecdotal estimate.) And assuming you do the earlier floors of PoD you can also do these in about 15 minutes. At 2.5 hoard per run you would need 4000 runs to reach 10k. At 15 minutes a run that would be 1000 hours total. For 20,000, double that.
If you actually obtained 20,000 loot boxes then you'd spend 27.5 hours opening them.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The secret:
The achievements are for finding tens of thousands of accursed hoards. But they never said anything about cashing out with them. Indeed, you could wipe at the boss and save a ton of time. Actually let's keep going with that. Since I've calculated that actually opening your loot boxes is a huge waste of time anyway, let's just throw them away.
I've got a good idea. I'm going to get a save file on floor 11 with an intuition and a map reveal pomander. I'm going to go in there, see if there's a hoard, get it, and die. Then because I'm allowed to reload dead saves at that level, repeat this process. Maybe a minute or two per hoard? Ad nauseam. Fun!

tl;dr
Some players who have the 20k achievement, and aren't banned for botting it, have placed a time estimate of 700 hours on it. My earlier estimate of 2000 hours for 8000 legitimate-looking runs of PoD may have been far off the mark. But that is 700 hours of rapidly entering and leaving the instance. Not even close to real gameplay. And now there's a 30,000 achievement.
There are players who complain about the prices of cosmetics they'll never buy. We all know they wouldn't buy those items if they were cheaper. What those players are actually saying is "these prices make me feel poor and excluded". And this new 30k achievement, that I don't want, makes me feel disappointed.
