How I would do an adaptation of FFXIV.

it's almost 4am and I'm currently sitting in the waiting lobby of the ICU hoping that my Granny makes it through the night, and I need a distraction.

So I am typing this. Not here to debate whether it should be done, or is possible or whatever. I know it probably isn't and likely shouldn't be.

Just throwing ideas around because I need something to do to stop me from being depressed right now.

anyway, how I would do adaptation(s) of FFXIV -

I would do 3 sets of Adaptations, telling Stories that we know about, but have not seen in full.

The First adaptation would be a 2 to 3 season Live Action Political Thriller type Science-Fantasy show about the rise of Garlemald, from the Garlean perspective.

Season 1 covers the rise of Solus Galvus. As this is from the Garlean perspective, It would be played straight, (so no overt Ascian/Emet-Selch stuff).

We meet a young Gaius Baelsar who serves under Solus before Solus ascends to Emperor.

We see the establishment of the Reapers, the discovery of Ceruleum and the beginnings of Magitek, and Solus' initial campaign victories, and his rise to Emperor by the end of the season.

Season 2 Begins after a timeskip. Garlemald is a legit Empire, Solus has been Emperor for a number of years now. This season centers on the rise of Gaius Baelsar, showing many of his Conquests, including the annexation of Ala Mhigo. We also meet young versions of Livia sas Junius, Lucia Goe Junius, Rhitahtyn sas Arvina, Nero tol Scaeva, and Cid Garlond during this season. Season 2 ends with the Battle of Silvertear Skies, with a post-season stinger teasing Season 3 by introducing Nael Van Darnus and Midas nan Garlond.

Season 3 centers on Project Meteor, and the political machinations surrounding it. Here we are introduced fully to Midas nan Garlond, Nael(Eula)Van Darnus, and those two along with an adult Cid Garlond, Gaius Baelsar Varis Yae Galvus as the primary players for the season, with Solus Galvus making appearances as the various parties curry favor for and against Project Meteor from him. A cameo by a very young Zenos. A Reaper attempts to assassinate the Emperor and gets more than he asks for (and this is the only time we hint at Solus being something other than a regular man).

The Season(and the series) ends with the Bozja Incident and the fallout from it, and Gaius gearing up for another shot at Eorzea.

The Second Adaptation would be a 2-3 season Animated adaptation of the War of the Magi, from the beginning of hostilities to the flood that resulted from it.

Season 1 would depict the discovery of Black Magic by the Mhachi, the resulting aggressiveness from the Black Mages of Mhach, and the creation of White Magic to counter it by Amdapor. The first skirmishes between the 2 City-States, which lead to all out war by Season's end.

Season 2 would show how Nym is dragged into the War against its will, and how it used it's Scholars and Nymian Marines to repel all assailants. Then we would see how Mhach resorts to trickery to destroy Nym, and Nym's attempts to counter Mhach's trickery.

Season 3 is all out War between Mhach and Amdapor, leading to the 6th Umbral Calamity, and the efforts made by all City-States to survive it, and the creation of Red Magic at the end.

The 3rd adaptation would be a 2.5 hour movie that would be about Ardbert and the rise of the 1st Reflection's Warriors of Light, and their final confrontation with the Shadowkeeper. Live Action or Animated, I'm not entirely sure tbh. We would see the 1st as it used to be before the Flood of Light.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother Jmad and hope she gets better (I lost my grandmother a few months ago so I kind of know what you're going through).

Sadly SE canned the planned Amazon TV adapation for FFXIV, which, as I understand it, all that had been mentioned is that it was apparently going to tie into Shadowbringers, feature Cid in a major role, and... tongue firmly in cheek, "feature lots of chocobos" according to Sony execs. Alas COVID killed it off but I think SE decided the risk wasn't worth the investment, the echoes of the failure of the Spirits Within still haunt SE like a bad smell.

However after watching season 1 of the Fallout TV adaption (and eagerly awaiting season 2), it's clear RPGs can be adapted for TV and done well if the production know what they're doing and more importantly, understand the source material and treat it with respect. So your ideas definetely have merit!

As for adaptation, I can't say I have much of an idea myself for it, just putting it out there for Squeanix that it might actually be worth the investment risk. It did wonders for Cyberpunk, and I think a story about a light party of adventurers, maybe with some scion cameos every now and them and seeing their time in Eorzea could really pull some players in to give the game a try!
