Do i MUST play the Beta?

Doesn't matter if you "like" the system or not. Files cannot be transfered while being used, that's just how it works.

this. How you suppose to trasfer files to a new pc if it's currently in use ? How you can format an HD if you're using it ? They can't let us play 1.0 because they can't transfer database files while we are playing. And btw, even if they can tranfer databases while running, the trasfered information would be outdated...

If they let people continue to play the 1.0 game while the transfer was taking place, that person would lose all the progress they made in the month during the transfer. 1.0 is ending, deal with it.

now a days, beta is not even a testing tool. It's an advertising gimmick to make us water over passes and then talk about how fun the game is with rose colored lens.

I personally don't want to play the beta, because it spoils it too much for me.

For example I played the FFXIV beta in 2010 and started in Limsa Lominsa, and the second time around wasn't really exciting. It spoils too much. I have to say that my beta experience was a lot more fun, because we were discovering things for the first times, giddy, happy, excited.

In the meantime, after they take down FFXIV 1.0, I will be trying GW2. Sure, GW2 may not be a long term game for me, but I'll just keep an active account anyway since it has no subscription fee. Then I will be ready for FFXIV ARR when that comes out. GW2 will tide me over until then.

While it may sound like a long time, taking one month to copy data, format it correctly for the brand new system, check and double-check for errors, all while closely monitoring the open beta for issues, is something I can understand will take a while. Especially if it helps someone avoid losing any gear/history/progress from version 1.0 just because the transfer was done carelessly.

While this is unconfirmed (they haven't locked down their schedule yet) I'm not anticipating the version 1 servers to go down till the open beta starts in Winter. It would make little sense to take things down as early as the autumn* alpha testing. Indications so far are that we have till November with this version of the game.

*for all the yanks out there, autmn means fall.
