Disappointed Oceania was forgotten about in the live letter

While showing the new Strategy Board feature a slide came on at 3 hours 45 minutes and 46 seconds saying
You can toggle between 2 sets of icons to represent DPS roles without editing the strategy board itself:
    D1, D2, D3 and D4 (commonly used in Japan)
M1, M2, R1, R2 (commonly used in NA and EU)

that should read commonly used in Japan and OCE

Honestly? I was surprised they even mentioned NA.

NA has been using it of late, somewhat due to the rise of the strategy websites and joonbob but especially because of hector.

NA would always decide positions with waymarks and still do, but sometimes people will say "I'm M1", "I'm R2" and it's becoming increasingly common to discuss it in that way. It's just surprising SE acknowledges something, anything, at all, that is going on outside Japan.

You could say they were left... on an island.

As a former OCE player I understand why the region isn't mentioned more. It doesn't even have the population to sustain a healthy high end Party Finder scene, it's just the same 10 people. The server needs to merge with Elemental or SE needs to make a new DC with physical data centres in multiple countries so people from different regions can play on the same server with decent ping, similar to what WoW does.

It likely has more people, they just decided not to transfer to Materia.
The server needs to merge with Elemental
Their intention was to move them off Elemental and other data centers. Obviously, a lot of them just stay on their original EU/NA/JP data centers or travel to Materia occasionally if they want to.
SE needs to make a new DC with physical data centres in multiple countries so people from different regions can play on the same server with decent ping, similar to what WoW does.
A cross-DC and cross-region Party Finder would solve that problem, but the fact remains that when you queue for a duty, the server must choose which region you play in. Someone will lose out ping-wise. It is not possible to solve that. The best it could try to do is choose the data center that provides a median for all the players there - a bit more ping for some, in order to reduce it for others.

Below we have a transcription of what Naoki Yoshi-P Yoshida said at PAX:
    - "For some players, like me, I kind of get sleepy because it's so repetitive."
