Cutscenes are integral to showing the story in FFXIV, and I'm very happy that they exist. If anything, a "vote to skip cutscene" should be introduced and the timer should not start until after everyone has entered the instance.

This. YoshiP said XIV is an RPG(Final Fantasy game) first, MMORPG second which means if story bothers someone they'll be joining the wrong MMO.
I've never understood people who make other party members skip their cutscenes unless it's necessary (moogle fight and speed runs). Really, you can't wait the two minutes it takes to make the experience more enjoyable for them?
Anyway, the main problem in the cutscenes is that the timers don't stop for them and this should be changed. In my opinion, they should just make everyone watch the CS for the first time too. And unless someone in the party skips the CS, they shouldn't take your fighting time.
Everyone's not skipping it because they don't want to watch it. They're skipping it because time matters a lot where a lot of these cutscenes are taking place. If they made it so that the time doesn't start until the boss is engaged or until everyone is done watching, then this wouldn't really be a problem at all.
When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
This is an RPG, a Final Fantasy one no less, not a Hack & Slash game. Cut scenes are about telling the STORY. The STORY is why many Final Fantasy fans stay with the series.
Despite the OP's claim that everyone wants to run to the fight, the reality is not so. Many want to see the whole cut scene. And when the cut scene at the end of the fight (or middle) is related to the beginning, it does not make sense to skip the start.
I believe the source of the problem truly is that the timer starts when the cut scene starts. If the timer/fight did not start until everyone has finished the cut-scene then it would be less a problem. And if it is only 2-3 minutes, then people should be able to wait that long (on their first run through it).
I desire for more cut-scenes, more stories, and more details of the lore of this world that we are fighting and dying to protect.
Thank you ^.^;

The only problems with CSs are that the battle clock still ticks and that it allows your chat log to pop up when the ls or party talks and ruins your Screen shots.
This is a FF title, Cut scenes are an important part of its structure

I totally disagree. i love these cutscenes personally..and its just ONE big thing that makes the FF Online franchise to stand out.
that i do not think i am playing a WoW clone right now. it makes Final Fantasy 14 somethin special. and you want SE to remove the last kind of "special ff thing" out of the game.. wow. from time till time i like to watch those scenes. but not to annoy anyone i skip it as well and watch it in the INN.
I mean, how freaking awesome is Garudas appearance, and how cute is that appearance of the Moogles? they give the bosses kind of big appearance.
i totally disagree with the thread opener. you want to kill the typical ff atmosphere? rude. well i think you at least dont care about atmosphere or enjoying the game itself, rather than just rushing through content.
I NEVER watched aussum ingame cutscenes like this in a MMorpg, i feel much more entertained and part of the world and story.
and you cant believe things like these.. there are rp gamers out of there and even rp guilds who would enjoy things like this.
And seriously new players enjoy it the most, especially those who only played WoW etc.
its something new, and new things are good things. they are copying enough stuff from WoW and co. and you want them to remove the special things FF is famous for. congrats to that, i cant believe what i just read.
the only thing i could agree with you are the elevator cutscenes ;XD
thats my opinion on your opinion
What i like about GW2 is, that people who are watching a cutscene at the moment, had a special icon above their heads. so everybody from the outside saw "oh ok, he still is watching CS". that would be also a good thing for FF14, too.

It seems it all comes down to the stupid dungeon/instance/batte timer counting down while we're watching cutscenes. And i agree that it annoys me as well.
I for one enjoy and love watching the cutscenes and don't understand why people feel like ignoring them. Then again this current generation of people and gamers can't seem to wait to get to the action. A noticeable trend these days. People not caring for story, only wanting the action. Not even bothering to let something slowly pace up to the eventual action.
Also cutscenes never tend to break my pace. Instead they fire me up. That includes the cutscenes after a phase. Heck I'm even looking forward to them.
I'll end by saying that I /REALLY/ hate it when people are urging my to skip a cutscene with the excuse that I can watch it at my inn. I don't work like that. I want to see the cutscene when I'm actually doing the stuff. Not afterwards, not to mention that some cutscenes show your entire party. Which doesn't happen while replaying them inside the inn.
