    Solo duty: Nyelbert's Lament

    Hello All

And here I am, again stuck by a solo duty, and again one forcing me to play a class else than my. No need to rant this time since by now, you all know how much I hate the bother. So let's go straight to the point.

My problem: After a short run we arrive at Bovian. The fight starts. It goes on until two bulls spawn, usually right at the time I can use the special skill for first time (limit break full). So they're no problem and I clear them fast, while at same time damaging Bovian a lot. After that, it keeps going on with Bovian alone, fairly well, until suddenly the duty stops with notification that it failed.
    Huh... What? Why? What happens?

My question: It's clear to me that once more, I fail to see/understand something causing the duty failure. Do you know what it could be? If yes, could you please explain to me what I have to do to prevent it?

Thank you very much in advance.

These role quest duties test your unique role abilities and therefore actually challenge your ability to use the role correctly. An example of this is: tanks have to interrupt, healers have to Esuna and heal instead of attacking, DPS have to dodge attacks because they can't absorb damage the way tanks can. While players ignore these things a lot in dungeons, they are all tested in role quests and the duty fails if they are not done.

Assuming you kept out of range of the swipes, the next major attack is a stack marker, where you need to stand with the rest of your team to share the damage with them. If you didn't do this, the damage wouldn't split enough, kill either you or them. You will notice they all stand in a blue circle, and I believe that is a cure from the Lamitt, so try to stand in the blue circle for it.

Eventually, some rocks appear that actually stay there. If you get a yellow target marker on you, you need to stand behind the rock (fully behind, you cannot be inside it). This will allow you to use the rock as a shield. I believe you are meant to get the rock on the right (relative to the entrance).

When it's nearly dead, it will cast 200,000-mina Swing. If you know about the casts of these type of enemies, that means an unvoidable and deadly swing covering the entire arena. Cylva will use a protective move to protect you, but you must stand behind her for it (the blue barrier).

Thank you for the description. I will try to identify what is the killer point in my case. Based on what you say, it could be the stack marker, because I can't recall seeing any. I will keep your post on my 2nd screen while retrying later today.

As promised, a follow up. I got rid of the duty. I was also able to identify why the duty failed before and the solution to prevent it. It wasn't my fault this time!

I describe it in case it could help others: Out of the 3 NPCs, the two important ones are Lamitt , the healer, and Cylva , the key guy who shall not die (duty fails upon his death).

Problem: Lamitt always stays at the back of the team, with his position adjusted to that of the real player. If we are far from Cylva (ranged class), Lamitt is even farther (behind us), too far from Cylva to keep healing him. From there, when Bovian starts with AOEs, Cylva keeps standing in middle of those and Lamitt is too far away and doesn't provide healing. Cylva dies and duty fails.

Solution: During the fight against Bovian, I ran to the other side of him, what forces Lamitt to come closer to Cylva to keep being in range for me. Then, during the whole fight, I maintain the configuration Lamitt - Cylva - Bovian - me, so that Cylva was always close to Lamitt and got healing all the time. When AOEs started, Cylva kept standing in the middle of them, as usual, only this time, he was healed by Lamitt and survived. I was myself out of AOEs so not in danger. That was really the key to success.

I finished Shadowbringer yesterday. This is the chapter that gave me the most opposite feelings.

I was amazed at the world/landscape. I loved that we can unlock flying rapidly in each zone. The Crystarium is nice. And so on... List would be too long. But on the other hand, I hated the msq because of all the solo duties, out of which several forcing me to play a different class.

I know that many players like solo duties and changing classes. It's nice for them of course. But not everybody is the same. At the top of it, melee was the worst. I never ever play melee in any MMORPGs, because I get motion sickness at that pretty rapidly. Sooooooooooo...

Anyhow. It's over and I'm glad. Now I will be able to return freely in all the beautiful zones, with everything unlocked since msq is over. I will then do the side quests, what I will certainly enjoy a lot more.

Congratulations Lu! Don't forget to move onto the patch storyline when you're ready which takes you into Endwalker (which, has it's flaws, but does tie in a lot to what you've just gone through in ShB).

Yes, I will continue with post quests. Have already done a few, but decided to stop for now and take a break from the msq. Instead, I will chill for a while and do only things I enjoy. I would like to rebuild the fun and most of all feel "comfortable" again before to re-touch the msq.

I know am an idiot, but those solo duties really gave me bad times.

You're not, honestly. Play the game however makes you the happiest, there's nothing wrong with that!
I hope you have a good break from saving the world and enjoy the remaining MSQ!
