Thread: FPS Stutters in Borderless Windowed since just before 7.3

I have been having issues with my game not rendering smoothly in Borderless Windowed mode since just before 7.3 dropped. When I switch to Full Screen it is smooth, but as I need to tab out a lot it would be preferred to find a solution to allow me to return to Bordless Window.

System Specs:
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)
GPU AMD RX 7900 XTX
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.1 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Things I have tried:
Turn off HDR
Turn of Discord Overlay
Ensure Drivers are up to date

Any ideas of other things I could try or have overlooked would be appreciated.

We apologize for any inconvenience experienced when trying to play Final Fantasy XIV. Thank you for providing the requested information. We may suggest the following:

Disable other overlays. Close or disable things like Parsec, Razer Synapse, and other apps that hook into the game as they can interfere with Borderless smoothness.

Disable Full Screen Optimizations. To disable this, please find the "ffxiv_dx11.exe" and right click it and select properties. Then under the compatibility tab there will be a check box labeled "Disable Full Screen Optimizations". Check it and click apply.

Launch the game using DirectX 11 to see if this improves the performance in Borderless mode.

I notice you have 65gb of system RAM, a Ryzen 5 7600X CPU, and a 24GB RX 7900 XTX....

But, you also have:

The first should the CPU's built in GPU cores, but 32gb of VRAM is way off.

The second seems to be some third party virtual monitor program and 56gb of VRAM seems way high.
As your system RAM is 64gb and that is what is used for VRAM for the CPU and that program, the latter program might be siphoning a bit much, so that while in game but also sharing the desktop environment due to borderless Window, the game + Windows + that program might be eating up enough RAM to effect the game performance.

I do not suspect the CPU's VRAM is an issue, as that would only be used when running a display directly off the motherboard's monitor header.... but, still, 32gb for 2 display cores that would struggle on sub 720p seems to be a bit much.
The graphics cores on the CPU are really only for use to do system maintenance sans a video card within BIOS or an OS.
I think you can tone the allocation down in the AMD Radeon chipset program.

That said, try running the game with that Parsec Virtual Display Adapter completely disabled/shut down.

I have this exact same issue except I don't use anything fancy on my PC like Parsec or whatnot. Perfectly normal dual monitor setup, except FFXIV stutters and drops frames like crazy in borderless windowed mode. It almost feels like the game is rendering at the wrong resolution because in full screen I can pretty much cap the game at 240fps, but borderless windowed I can have trouble staying above 170fps.
