The store (Gifting)

So a friend of mine wants to gift me something for my birthday in the game, and asked me to select a thing for her to gift me. I had a look and like 70% of the items in the store aren't gifteable. And the 30% that actually are giftable, I don't want.

Mounts, emotes, minions, face paint, orchestrion rolls, value-packs ("The adventurer's supply kit" cause that's the only bloody pack in there and for some reason needs its own category/tab). All of these things cannot be gifted.

Now my question is this: What is even the point of the gifting system on the store, if more than half the cursed store (And mostly the only things people actually want) can't be gifted?

I have many gripes with this game, but this one almost takes the cake simply because it makes no sense. This alone has made me not want myself or my friend to gift me something in the store at all, which means less money for squenix.

Now I am only 1 person obviously and I make no impact whatsoever by choosing to not buy anything, but still. And I can't be the only one that decides to not buy/gift anything on the store because most actual giftable items hold next to no value.

Again, makes no sense.

they amended the store a while back
apparently bots were buying it and selling it cheeper to players
not entirely sure why that would be a bad thing as SE would still gain the cash
but it was part of that

prior you could gift mounts
its a crying shame they removed that. i gave mounts to my friends on their birthdays.
you can still do it in game tho. buy a minion/mount and send it them

Apparently, a portion of those purchases was made from stolen bank accounts. As far as I know, companies are generally required to refund the money they got from transactions like this, so SE would be, in that case, at a losing side, since they'll have to refund the money while the person still has the item, and the only one getting profit in that scenario is the reseller. So technically, the logic is there.

What I don't quite understand is why they went with current "partial" gift feature, instead of either making all items sendable to friends only, or just disabling the feature entirely. Considering the items that seem to be prohibited for gifting are "registrables", my only assumption is that it's harder on back-end side to take those back compared to "physical" items, like clothes. I do however wonder how deleting the item would work with something like Fantasia or dyes, which can be gifted, but they are also consumable, meaning they don't stay on your account forever.

Because that's illegal. Even if SE was fine with it, they still have obligation to deal with it. As an above poster mentioned it's made even worse by the fact most of the purchases are coming from sources the buyer doesn't own.

It makes sense if you remember far back enough, in the not-too-distant past, that they had trouble with RMT and had to restrict it.

Just pretend it doesn't exist, it's so much worse and inconvenient with all the restrictions it has in place now.
Better off finding a gift card for an alternative platform that they might use often.

There's always the option of asking him to gift you cash so you can buy anything you wanted from the online store too.
