Chocobo racing and Breeding

I understand the concept and how to go about it, except for one thing. Rng hates me and doesn't seem I am as lucky as some people. I know many recommend at least 2 of the 4 stars for P1 breeding, and 4 of the 4 stars for P2 breeding. But that is where my RNG fails.

Essentially, what is the recommended minimum number of 4 stars you want for each of the pedegree levels 1-9?

So far, I have a total of 4 stars in each pedigree.
P1: 2
P2: 4

I just want to know the minimum if not lucky, and to fix up the mistakes if I hit one down the line, but not botch it and not know I did.

It's been a while since I last did it, but I think what I did is not worry about it too much, and then really go for it once I hit pedigree 8. At that point you can use them for in-breeding and it's a lot easier to get all 4 stars.

RNG is RNG. There's not much in the way of guidance through RNG, because it's random. If the RNG is real bad, you have your original earlier backups to breed from again up to 9 more times.
