    Tinge is a forbidden word?

Trying to help figure out why it's a forbidden word for an FC tag. We've figured out that i is part of the problem, because doing all caps with a lowercase L works just fine.

Tinge just means to color slightly, and none of the combos with i make anything obviously offensive?

    ti
    in
    ing
    inge
    ???

    Help XD

Would seem they are worried about it being used as a derogatory term as it is seemingly used to negatively refer to someone of mixed heritage, which feels a bit silly as any word can be used like so at any moment, that or it's a swear in a different language.

You might just have to go with the lowercase L solution for now.

The censorship choices in this game are honestly insane.

Not any weirder than censorship choices in Chinese games, believe me. You had to see my face when I wrote "I found phases easier to stick with" in chat in AFK Journey, and the word "stick" came out censored.

The reason it is forbidden is that the list of forbidden words is shared across all client languages. Since that word is an NSFW word in Japanese, it is likewise prohibited in the English version.

I'm not seeing tinge meaning anything NSFW in Japanese. I know that word or part of that word is a problem in Japanese or one of the other client languages, I'm trying to figure out what part of the word tinge exactly is the bad word that is tripping the forbidden filter so we're aware to avoid that letter combo in the future.

I've had it happen before where part of a character name had the word 'lez' in it and wouldn't allow it even though the name just happened to have that combo of letters in the middle of it, so I know I can't use names that have that letter combo.

There are some romanization standards in the Japanese language. "ti" is usually spelled as "chi", so both versions appear on the list. Considering there are in-game words like Tintinnabule, the French version of Liturgy of the Bell, I think this restriction is excessive.

Ahhh I found it after replacing the "ti" with "chi" in search. Doing a few more process of elimination combos, Ti, Tin, and Ting do not trip the censor, it's specifically the full word once the E gets added. Tysm! Mystery solved XD

Today I learned that "chinge" is Japanese slang for pubic hair, something I never would have learned if not for this thread about FFXIV's term filter. Thanks for the education, Square-Enix!

Please note that this word refers only to the male one; the female equivalent uses a different word (please don't ask me what it is). The reason I mention the French version of Liturgy of the Bell is that, for Japanese speakers, its sound can unintentionally evoke an association with male anatomy.
