Rokien our person from the future!!! oh what would we do without you?!?!?!? I can't adventure in 2.0?!?!? and all we have seen is some words on paper and the beginning areas of Gridania?!?!?! what will we do?!?! everyone stop what your doing and Yoshi stop what your doing we must all go play Morrowind because it is more of a game then ARR!

I know that self guided story measures used in old FF's are so boring and poorly made....There's no adventure doing exactly what the game tells you though anyway so you might as well not.
There should be quests and all that crap obviously, but handholding you through everything can get very insufferable very quickly. "Go here" "go here" "go here" "go here". Especially when the quest objectives are barely 100 meters from the quest start.
It's been done very poorly in the past. And SE seem intent on repeating the mistakes of past games, so... you do the math

who is to say this is not what is happening... they are not scrapping what they already have for us to do in XIV... they are just adding more quests...Right now there are options, You can do leves, dungeons, mob exp grind. Leves are for solo people! AWESOME! mob exp grind! AWESOME, dungeons for who wants to do em! AWESOME! Heck they even added exp to quests as well! AWESOME.
So what I'm asking for is keep leves for people have short amount of time to get on, for solo people. Keep exp grinds but make them more engaging, don't let it be an aoe spamfest(BORING!). Those silly quests you guys want, keep em! Great! just don't make them a better way to level.
I'm not stupid, it's WAY to late to change the quest system, but it's not to late to change exp rate of mobs and make them entertaining to fight.

I am with rokien on this. I dont like quest grinding and like to exp grind and farm open world mobs. Now just because you think quest grinding is fun dosent mean everyone else will. Yoshi needs to keep open world grind and add the quest grind and let the players decide how they wish to level up. Both types of systems can be added to the game and both types be balanced. I personally dont like all the instanced content and think some things should be instanced like the story missions but everythng else needs to be open world. There is no reason whats so ever to make a game so linear. FF13 sucked big time due to it being so damn linear but it seems SE didnt learn from there mistakes yet again. I have no faith in Yoshi and I believe Yoshi will be the down fall to FFXIV sooner than later.

No you don't Rokien didn't even quote properly. Yoshi never said he was going to a quest system, he only confirmed that for the first 15 levels of play...when ppl are noobs. This is why ppl ignore his threads.I am with rokien on this. I dont like quest grinding and like to exp grind and farm open world mobs. Sorry I dont trust Yoshi and I am agreeing with rokien and responding to some1 else. If you dont like thats fine, but Again it comes down to the fact that I do not trust Yoshi, and I also disagree with the direction Yoshi is taking FFXIV. Now maybe he didnt quote Yoshi correctly thats fine but its all speculation. Now what I currently see Yoshi doing in the current 1.0 version leads me to believe nothing will change come 2.0, and actions speak louder than words, at this point in time Yoshi hasnt earned my trust or respect period. Until I see differently come 2.0 my opinion will not change. Everyone is entitled to their opinion like it or not.

I understand some people love to mindlessly grind on monsters till there blue in the face and that is completely fine you can still do that in 2.0. However, the quest system is in place not only to level but to have interesting storylines ( even if they are minor ones) I mean Saving a Farmer from 10 Beastman invading there farm, or Saving a lady from a Dragon etc. Personally I hope for something along the lines of this:
Quest 1: Scout Area and find clues on who kidnap the lady ( 700 exp)
Quest 2: After collecting clues you notice on of the clues came from X place, you are to investigate the land to find the Princess's whereabouts.
Quest 3: Seeing that you got spotted and you had to fend off the attack, the enemy will be on high alert, You must go underground and sneak out the Princess out of the Enemy's Hide out!
Quest 4: The Enemy has Spotted and you and Surrounded you! You must find away to fend off the attack and flee when the chance opens up
Quest 5: You almost made it home when the Boss of the Enemy shows up and you must defeat him/her!
^ This kind of quest chaining I like to see, of course 1 Quest and done like helping out a farmer is always welcome ^.^.
Also, not every game is ment for everyone, when 2.0 comes out and it's not the one for you, just find another MMO to play you shouldn't be biting your self in the foot because you feel like you "Have" to play. There are other games out there, I recommend to don't play something you don't want to play.
