I believe male characters have them on the model? They just don't really have a texture different from the rest of the chest and that's why they are really hard to see. I do notice men being depicted without nipples in Japanese media a lot, though. Always wondered why.

Anyway, it could be a part of whenever they decide to update bodies, not just faces and hands/feet. Since DT dropped, it looks super weird to put characters in shorts and stuff because their faces are hi-res but their bodies are weirdly blocky still.

I never once said the same people working on raids or story are the ones who would be adding nipples. What I did say is that Square Enix has much bigger priorities than turning the official forums into a nipple wish list. There is a real difference between asking for proper body updates or better textures, which makes sense, and writing whole posts about how many nipples each race should have.

At that point it is less feedback and more someone's personal fetish slipping through.

I would say it is, because the entire discussion is specifically about nipples, counting them, and asking for renditions. That moves it from general realism into fetish territory. I'm not sure why a small portion of the community is so obsessed with sexualizing everything. You have plenty of outlets for things like that.
