I mean, yeah, but what's the point of the quest if it's just a quick venture to the Marketboard? I don't have my crafters equipped for this and it's not even worth it gearing up now since the matters are getting affordable by the minute. This doesn't scream "content".

To unlock the tomestone grind per weapon you need to collect some stuff and then do a light farm. Then the tomestone grind is 1.5k tomes per weapon again.
I mean that's just what relics are, they are by definition just tacked on to something because the relic is just a weapon.
Oh wait. The Light farm is still the only once step thing? And we then just farm Tomes again?
Damn.... Okay, it is not as good as I hoped it is when I saw the first step.

I was lucky enough my FC leader had the materials on hand and crafted all 3 of them for free an gave them to me. My highest crafter is BSM at 100 and that was after i forced myself to spend 2 days grinding it to 100 from 20
A happy family between a viera, a goddess and a child
I was really enjoying the first step, I don't mind gathering items in different ways. My enthusiasm died when i realized what the second one is.
What i REALLY dislike is that the second step is a glorified tomestone farm.
I was already going to do my roulettes (the ones i enjoy) to get tomes for my second+ weapons. I and many more players would've still filled them, there was no need to force me to do them for the first one, too.
I would've much preferred another grind in the zone that was made to grind in. Now it's just more roulettes before i can do more roulettes. It's like Endwalker, only more annoying because i can't choose.
I was really excited for another fun grind, and what i got was... Much less than that. Really killed my vibe. I don't think i'll be doing any other steps any time soon, if ever

Since SE is unable to provide engaging relic content and as a backup solution cannot seem to provide venues offering people to run whatever they actually do enjoy to dodge the problem, then the least bullshit I have to deal with the better for me for now.
Secretly had a crush on Mao

It doesn't, it follows ARR which also had crafting and given how simple it is nowadays to level crafters up I don't see the issue.

Great to have a real relic weapon step back finally.
Like all the things required.
I was missing a grind I could do on the side and with all the other things in my life right now it should keep me engaged for a while.
Thumbs up from me.
Hope they don't listen to the big bitching in the community again and keep this type of content for those who actually liked it in the first place.
Nahh, I don't have any leveled and I don't want to spend 1 mil gil on the mb just to begin playing. It doesn't, it follows ARR which also had crafting and given how simple it is nowadays to level crafters up I don't see the issue.

I don't think that just because ARR did it makes it free from criticism. ARR certainly did some things right, but back then the Relics actually meant something and carried slightly more prestige. Over the expansions, they've been turned into glorified tomestone weapons or "catch-up" ilvl weapons barring the expansion's last patch where being BiS by that time is largely pointless.
Also, simply levelling-up crafters and then actually gearing/melding them to acceptable craftsmanship/control thresholds to HQ these items are two different things.
I get throwing crafters a bone with this relic step, but I thought that's what crafted weapons were for. It's a bit jarring that they've turned away from forcing them to be necessary for relic weapons for nearly a decade and then suddenly make them a part of the process. And I don't think this step is as innovative or refreshing as some people want to make it out to be when I suspect for the vast majority of players this is simply a trip to the Marketboard. When I logged on the price of each mat was about 400k, within a couple hours most have halved in price; I imagine it will be undercut to like 100k some time within the day and will be dirt cheap by the weekend.
So basically, aside from the bicolor FATE currency, this is just a gil-sink speedbump.
I mean, I appreciate the subsequent aetherwell step; giving us a reason to run some largely-ignored roulettes. I haven't been in a Hades NM or the mud Arboretum in years. This part is kind of what I'd expect more or less with the relic steps. It's just a shame that I feel like the Light step is coming up soon, which always usually just devolved into running the fastest trial with the most light during a given time over and over. That was boring.
