What's the point of the Chocobo Saddlebag?

The fact we can pay money for more retainers and saddle bag tabs is my biggest fear for why we won't see any real improvements to the Inventory in game. They already have a system in place to make more money from the current inconvenience.

It's an extra slot for maps that we couldn't store if it was part of regular inventory. Why complain about it's existence at all? I would be fine with more inventory slots but not at the expense of the saddle bag.

It's less about complaining that it exists - because it's truly useful - but more like "Why it's not just more regular inventory space instead".
