    Aetherstones

Back in the day, FFXIV added "Aetherstones" to the coils raids, allowing raid glamours to be available as marketable goods. These days, savage gear simply adds dye channels, but I wonder if reimplementing such a system would give players more incentive to do savage raiding after earning BIS.

It'd give us a means to accrue gil through the marketboard without being required to craft or resort to farming Extremes (Unreals too, by extension). I don't see why not.

I imagine the reason such a system got axed is because enough people complained about the idea of non-raiders being able to walk around with the looks that only came from doing the content. It's ironically akin to one of Yoshi-P's examples in his Lodestone post about modding with the whole "wouldn't it be unfair/discourage people from doing the content if they saw someone running around with Ultimate weapon looks they didn't earn"? Same thing here really.

One might argue that it's different because this doesn't involve mods but rather a method for gil to change hands between raiders and non-raiders, but...

We had a topic not long ago of people arguing there should be LESS items that can be sold because they, I assume, don't care about making gil, but rather they want to try and force more people into doing the content to get those rewards themselves, where at present glamour is one of the few things that isn't sellable on the market board, and a lot of people would rather keep it that way.
Maybe could be 2 versions, one as suggested by the OP, a cosmetic version with just dye channels, and the one obtained through raid efforts having something "extra". It reminds me of the last tier of the Pandaemonium raids, the fire effects could be that something.

    - Normal version with stats, no dye, no extras
    - Aethersone cosmetic version (craftable, maybe?) without stats, dyeable, no extras
    - Savage version with stats, dyeable, with extras

It would make it easier to sell to non-raiders, probably.
People tend to do mercenary/carry runs for others that want specific items from content, in exchange for gil. I recall it being in-demand a lot when P5-P8s was endgame, no idea about nowadays but I would assume if the raid gear sets/weapons look good, people are willing to shell out cash for it because they want the fashion.

    The concept of a <<PayPal Legend>> doesn't exist to him, I guess.
