Do i MUST play the Beta?

At least i am not interessted in playing a beta. I know many ppl cant wait to start playing the beta, but doesnt this have to be the opinion of everyone? I want to keep playing 1.x untill the game launches after all the beta-stuff. Playing a beta is only a time waste, only the producer can do anything with that since beta data mostly get deleted before the launch.
And does Yoshi really let us pay for a beta? He never said a word about the payment when the Closed is getting online!

So i want to play 1.x untill the full launch of 2.0 is online, and only then i want my charakter to get transfered to the new world!

For anyone who doesn't understand this:
Translation = Can I play ffxiv 1.0 while 2.0 beta is running, and if not will I have to pay while I play the beta.

As for the answer, they need to shut the servers down while the beta is running in order to transfer all the characters and data. This will take about 1 month minimum apparently (although I seriously can't comprehend how from a tech perspective).

So you may be able to play 1.0 while the alpha runs, but by the time beta comes out, the 1.0 servers will most likely have been shut down.

I don't think anyone knows if you have to pay for beta or not yet, but I have a feeling once the servers go down they will suspend any charges or credit people the months that the game is down for. So you most likely will get to play beta for free.

I dont like the system that SE uses here to transfer all the charakters to a new world at a beta status. I dont think i am alone with that thinking that playing a beta is boring and has nothing to do with the launch then! If SE needs beta player, they should ask for and not just shut server down and just force everyone to the beta to play or play not at that time period.

the point is, current game and 2.0 is different game
lets just say that they speak in different language, and SE need to translate current game data to 2.0 language so that we can use that data in 2.0

and from what I gather, not all of us have the slot for beta. theres registration and all
so yes, its either (get pick to do) beta or not play anything at all

personally, I dont really care. if i get pick for beta then its nice. if not, then i can do something else

Leyla, I understand what you are asking for, but keeping these 1.0 servers running costs SE more money. When they shut the 1.0 servers down, I do not think we will be charged money either. There needs to be time for 1.0 to shut down so we can have our characters transferred to 2.0. That can take anywhere over one month. It is better we are given the option to play the beta while our characters are being transferred.

Doesnt have to do anything with winning, only with trying to talk to many as possible ppl. Not everyone can speak german, and not everyone who speaks german can speak english (even at least most do, but not everyone)

You don't have to play beta if you don't want to, but the servers are going down, players need to transferred to the new system, it takes a long time due to testing I assume to make sure no data has gone missing in the transfer. Will you have to pay for it, no, it says so in the 2.0 specs.

If they let you play 1.x up until 2.0 launch, your character would not be IN 2.0 at launch. They need to shut it down so they can move you there. Its sort of like... You can't play a new game in your console WHILE you remove the game and put in a new one, and then instantly switch to the new game. You NEED to turn the game OFF so you can take out the old and put in the new, and there's a little bit of downtime between the old game and the new game.

Not sure if this is the best analogy for it, but I tried... Maybe someone else can explain it better. But there NEEDS to be a break in between.
