The problem here is that people who use logs beneficially are greatly outnumbered by the tools who treat logs as the ultimate truth yet can't read any part of the log except the shiny percentile number.

Can't really downplay the negative effect when so many people fit the bill. See how many people on the forums try and shut down discussions on anything from savage content discussion to MSQ dungeon discussion with "Erm akshually, you're grey on the numbers website, so you dont get an opinion".

I think we have the entire mind set backwards here. Those people are looking to shut down your opinion and only after establishing that goal do they look for whatever they think supports it. Just check the dude from my signature. He tried to do that. I dont even do savage in pf, it's just entirely made up. When that one weirdo made the spreadsheet out of the healer thread they already had their conclusion when going in. This way they just outed themselves as person who shouldnt be listened to thanks to focusing on logs while not understanding anything about the forum. It wouldnt even have mattered. We both know that the healer thread is always in the superposition of being at the same time accused of being too good at the game and not being good enough.

Folks realize you can block/opt out easily of /fflogs, right? I have for years. My DPS/performance is my business, and I don't do high-end content, so if someone is going to call out my DPS in a dungeon or alliance raid, my response is "sit and twist on a rusty thumbtack" to that foolishness.

You cannot, actually. Not exactly, anyway. The only thing you can do is hide yourself from the search bar and rankings.

Even if you were to, Opting out is an admission you never want to be in a Extreme/Savage party ever again since people "passport check" every party now, and if your logs are hidden everyone assumes the worst.
If opting out means you just can't do content that's not a choice. That's mandatory.

And that's the major issue with the numbers site in particular, 1/8 people in every savage and ultimate party is required to break the ToS and use a 3rd party tool so everyone in the party can clear the passport check.

If your group just happens to all be console players and you clear a savage fight? Yeah, tough luck buddy, you haven't cleared because your passport is blank, back to prog parties for you. It's just not having a positive influence on the community at all.

Pretty much the whole thing read as tone-deaf to me. I encourage you to read it yourself if you haven't (Yoshi-P literally said not to summarize it so as to not take it out of context) but there seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of how these mods work. It's not just public to everybody, you literally had to share a code with people you trust in order for them to see the mods that you have on. You'd have to be an idiot to just share that with randos. This doesn't diminish anything because obviously your friend knows you didn't really beat that Ultimate, duh. Same goes with nudie mods. If you're dumb and you share/take codes from someone you don't know and you see boobies, that's kind of on you dude.

The mogstation thing is whatever, that's pretty transparently SE breathing down the dev team's necks and making them talk about "please understand, small indie dev team, inflation, servers cost money, etc." in a lame attempt to justify the fact that this game has THREE separate methods of monetization.

CMIIW, but aren’t your logs still being shown if someone else uploads a raid, and through theirs, people can see all party members’ logs, including yours? They just can’t directly see the information from your own character’s tab.

Knowing how usually dump and low iq these Visa/Mastercard and other payment processors employees are. I bet some random employee found some random Twitter nsfw post with FFXIV, and start to harass and blackmail SE with disabling Visa/Mastercard. Like they did with Steam.

Parsing is half the reason many people raid since the in-game rewards are lacking, and besides glamour it's the entire reason the 7.2 raid gear exists since there's no Ultimate in this patch to use it for.

I think losing the funny number website would be very damaging to the game.
