If someone can get to a log, and you were in the party, they'll still be able to learn that you were in the party and exactly how you performed.

Even if you were to, Opting out is an admission you never want to be in a Extreme/Savage party ever again since people "passport check" every party now, and if your logs are hidden everyone assumes the worst.
If opting out means you just can't do content that's not a choice. That's mandatory.

Beating around the bush is necessary when you're combating rules-lawyers who will jab their finger at anything you say and use whataboutism; meanwhile the goal here is to keep the game clean, fair, and consistent.

And that's the major issue with the numbers site in particular, 1/8 people in every savage and ultimate party is required to break the ToS and use a 3rd party tool so everyone in the party can clear the passport check.

If your group just happens to all be console players and you clear a savage fight? Yeah, tough luck buddy, you haven't cleared because your passport is blank, back to prog parties for you. It's just not having a positive influence on the community at all.

Parsing is half the reason many people raid since the in-game rewards are lacking, and besides glamour it's the entire reason the 7.2 raid gear exists since there's no Ultimate in this patch to use it for.

I think losing the funny number website would be very damaging to the game.

I do actually fully understand how a competition can arise around scores. It's the case in pvp, it's also the case in almost all games in existence. Nothing prevents SE to implement scoreboards for teams on kill times for example, much like pvp has rating boards and whatnot.

Anyway, to make is a tl;dr, the whole point was that I find a bit strange to see SE cracking down on community things by invoking infringing on the enjoyment of others with examples in the vein of "ultimate bragging rights", when the real infringement has already been happening for ages in more dire places than what Mare did. As for the NSFW content, that's right, but that's also not due to Mare that people post NSFW modded content on twitter either.

I find their priorities extremely strange.

No, enmity list is not the same as a DPS meter. No, you cannot recreate logs with the in game combat log and a calculator, no one does this. If it were viable they would do that instead of injection.

And the sites being default running on everyone affects people's personal enjoyment when it's used to beat new ones over the head with their performance and used as a measure of who is allowed in PFs for new content. FFLogs and Tombstone are a prime example of a mod that has gone so widespread people aren't even afraid to talk about using it and aren't afraid to use it against other players maliciously.

If Mare crossed the line, those sites definitely cross the line.

No one uses a calculator because it's vastly more inconvenient than just having a program read all the relevant info directly. If ACT didnt exist, then people would use copy and paste the combat log into an excel macro. No one really cares about your logs anyway, using it to filter out progliars is not malicious either. Naturally there are also people who are not smart enough to read logs and will try to shut down valid opinions but in doing so they just reveal themselves as fools to anyone else which i see as a benefit.

Edit: The thing with hiding logs is that you kinda show other people that you care too much about logs by doing it.

The problem here is that people who use logs beneficially are greatly outnumbered by the tools who treat logs as the ultimate truth yet can't read any part of the log except the shiny percentile number.

Can't really downplay the negative effect when so many people fit the bill. See how many people on the forums try and shut down discussions on anything from savage content discussion to MSQ dungeon discussion with "Erm akshually, you're grey on the numbers website, so you dont get an opinion".
