The Will of the Moon: A rant & a question

    Hello All

Long time I didn't ask something...

Today's Subject: The solo duty "The Will of the Moon".

I hate solo duty. They're a nightmare to me and I hate even more being forced to do them (msq step).
This one now is especially terrible for me because:
    - I'm forced to play else than my own class. As a slow learner, it's hard on me (honestly, zero fun).
    - The duty has 2 separated parts: If you fail at 2nd part, you need to restart from the beginning? Seriously? Why is there not a 2nd entrance like in dungeons? Once more, zero fun and it becomes rapidly tedious.

Anynhow, now that I was able to vent out a bit... ..., my question is about the 2nd part against Magnai:
I can heal Hyen and me, and damage Magnai, but it takes ages and once Magnai has close to nothing in his health bar, it's like my damages don't do anything anymore. Things keep going with apparently nothing happening, for long minutes, until suddenly it tells that duty failed.
So, it's obvious I fail to understand something: Is there an action I need to do to end this fight?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've seen it being a common complaint that playing as another character bothers people. In order to consider players that aren't used to those classes, they restrict it to just 4 buttons. I recommend hovering over the buttons to see the tooltip, which explains what each of them do.

Often it will be something like: Single Target attacks, One-off Attack (Damage-over-Time or Ability), Heal/Damage Reduction/AoE/Ability, Ability/Utility/Heal

The battle usually will not begin until you attack or move close, so you have time to hover over to get a sense of what everything does:
    • "Delivers an attack" - Single Target
    • "to target and all enemies nearby it" - Multi-enemy attack, use this if there's 3 enemies or more.
    • An attack with a large "Recast" time. You can usually just press that when the Recast time elapses.
    • "Restores HP" - just use when it's needed and your HP is low, or you get hit.
    • "Reduces damage taken" - if you're losing HP a lot, or there's a big attack that keeps happening, useful for that moment.
    • "Restores MP" - useful if your MP gets low.
It still takes getting used to, even for me, since I'm not used to the layout of those attacks or using them in the correct situations.

It stems from the single player Final Fantasy games, which let you play as other characters a lot. By this point in the game they wanted to do this to increase the attachment to those characters.

It was a hard battle. I think I even failed it the first time. They did make it easier afterwards, but it can still be tough sometimes, and it should let you select a "Very Easy" difficulty if you enter it again.

As for not starting at the second battle, that is an issue like you said. They actually added checkpoints to similar battles starting from the final patch story for 5.5, but it's not retroactive. Most likely they will add them to older fights like this one in the future; they just didn't get round to it yet.

If you get an enemy to 0.1% HP and they don't die, it's usually because there is another objective you are meant to do. I looked up the fight and there is a little blue circle you are meant to run to in order to survive all the orange circles. You will see Hien run in front of it.

Thank you very much, your post is a nice help.

For now, I will stay away from it. I didn't had the slightest fun and got so angry... In such cases, I always force myself to abandon the bother for some days, doing other things that are fun instead. I refuse to let a game give me bad feelings.

In some days from now, I will give it a try again, using your post as a support.

Specific tips for this duty coming up. You seem to have no issue with the Sadu phase, so ill skip that. So in phase 2 you are playing as a conjuror. This is the base healing class in the game. As such your offense and defense arent superb. Normally my first piece of advice is to pay attention to the script the NPCs are trying to put you on. In this one specific duty, ignore them. For me personally, the first step was putting Hien on my "Focus Target". Focus Target(shift+F i believe is the default) puts an extra target/healthbar/ui element on your screen that stays on the target you pick regardless of what actions you take. This makes it easy to track Hien's health, and more quickly target him to get a heal in when needed. Outside of the duty, you can focus target any NPC/player/interactable object then use your HUD editor to put the extra info in a useful place.

Ok, so the script the NPCs want to follow is you focus on Magnai, Hien focuses on Daidakul, and you heal the two of you through. You can win doing this, but dont. You have 3 spells(and a mana recovery). A heal, a direct damage spell, and a dot(aero if i remember). Put your DoT on both Magnai and Daidakul. Now run around avoiding Magnai's attacks(without getting too close to Hien so he doesnt take splash damage). Heal any time either you or Hien gets to half health. If you have extra time, use your attack spell on Daidakul. You are more or less ignoring Magnai all together. When Hien tells you to focus on Magnai, ignore him too and stay on Daidakul. Soon enough they will try to eliminate Hien using Limit Break style attacks. When you see this sequence start, heal Hien to full before the attack hits and immediately heal him again after the attacks land. Its ok to not be attacking during this part(tho keeping the DoT active will at least speed up the fight some). Shortly after this Hien finishes off Daidakul. Now the 2 of you work on Magnai together and the hard part is over. The script will eventually get to Magnai trying to finish things. Just do what Hien asks at that point(the spot he wants you to stand, like Jeeq said), and youve won. Congrats and enjoy your reward.

Thanks for this additional info. Will implement it too on my next try.

This deserves a double posting (sorry mods).

I finally found the courage to retry the duty earlier and I got it done on first try! That's alone thanks to your both posts: Jeeqbit and Frizze! THANK YOU!

The trick to ignore Magnai while helping Hyen to kill Daidakul first, turned it into a really easy fight. I'm so glad for that. Also, the target focus with shift+F was a huge support (have not known that), and it will serve me for the future too.
