Features in the expansion trailer should not be in the post-patch

So Beastmaster was just announced for 7.5, which in reality we know it actually means 7.55, and it just dawned on me that it's a little unfair how the expansion presentation is.

A lot of the features presented in the dawntrail reveal at fanfest in 2023 (in the ongoing content updates) were features such as:
- New Deep Dungeon
- New Variant
- Beastmaster
- Blue Mage
- Raid planner
- Gold Saucer updates
These are things that some of them are not even in the game today, but were presented as being part of Dawntrail.

In fairness they also showed things that were there at launch (New Hub City, New Dungeons, New Zones, New Tribes), but those are things we know and expected from a new expansion because they've been adding those since Heavensward.

Maybe I'm crazy right now, but during Shadowlands in WoW, everything that was shown in the gameplay trailer was actually present at launch (New Faction Zones, Ability to get a covenant, Torghast).

Why does it seem like whenever something gets announced for FFXIV you have to never let yourself get too happy or excited because there's always a huge asterisk. Beastmaster was a big announcement at fanfest, and it's literally gonna be a feature TWO YEARS after it was announced. TWO YEARS!!!


I'm sorry if I'm irrational, but I'm just a little sad because I was really hoping to try out Beastmaster and just got sadden by how far selling point features of the new expansion are in the expansion...

It's always been this way. Fanfest is an announcement of all the content coming in the expansion. They announce it there because they want you to buy the expansion and the product they are selling you includes the content of the patches.

You don't have to like it, but that's how it's always been and SE ain't gonna change it. Of all the things to complain about, this one isn't worth putting energy into. If you want to wait for everything in the list to be available, you can wait to resubscribe at the final patch, since that's obviously how long it's going to take them to develop it either way.

Live service gains will always drip feed content. They always have, and they always will. It's IN THE NAME OF THE TYPE OF GAME.

My only issue with it is...

From when they've announced it, to when they actually release it... I've already stopped caring, especially when the PLLs actually concerning the content, spend 20 minutes salad wrapping the most mundane things

I dont understand why relatively smaller content like BLU and BST take so long when they are prime post launch drip feed candidates. Their priorities are wack.

Maybe BST is more novel but why isnt BLU 90 already.

While I understand the nature of MMORPGs, I always thought it was disingenuous to list features of an expansion that come 3 years later than release.
I don't see it so much with their competitors because their expansions feel like they are more packed with more long term content upon release.
My biggest gripe is the X.1 Trial - it really should be in the X.0 as it means we don't have a new villain boss for 8 months and at that point, the novelty of the X.0 boss has worn off for many.

During one of the Fanfests, they showed a concept art of it. Then it went into radio silence for over a year, perhaps even a year and a half.
Then finally we got an update during a LL, but it was just to show the size of the island.

During this time, people's expectations ran wild, fueled by some reports that an interview with a dev had said it would be closer to housing, and Animal Crossing was also fresh in peoples' mind.

And then we got IS.

It's actually funny and sad at the same time.
I was really hyped about IS, I wanted something like Stardew Valley farm with customisation, plus it could help with housing dilemma if it was more like instanced housing.

I went in first day, grinded like hell to upgrade everything, i camped animals to collect rares and... in the end it appeared to be a spreadsheet simulator to juat buy rewards and leave. No customisation other than the "yard" (with limitstions of course), no housing or actually any feel that it's "my" place, more like factory where I visit once a week to check if thing are going smoothly, throw more food in feeders and leave again.

And now I was very hyped for Beastmaster. Hunter was my favourite class in WoW specifically because I can collect rare pets and actually use them in battle.

And tbh I'm really pessimistic about it now. We're probably getting a BLU reskin, where instead of spells we will be collecting random mobs for their skills. I dont think they will implement anything interesting with them, i don't think they will try enough to create new unique rare pets for BM, especially when it's a "limited" job, and most likely we will just get another carnival to complete it once and then shelf this job for a next couple of years.

Maybe they will update its cap when BST comes out so that it's easier for them to do both at the same time. (doubt)
But yeah, the announce-release timeline with everything in between, I am tired.
