You've mentioned that it was brought into active gameplay. Just exactly how did it do that? Besides people calling one out for not having it.I used to enjoy going to player clubs in the evenings, because I liked listening to music with others, chatting a bit, and having
the opportunity to use lots of emotes. But once I realized what was really going on....that most people there were actually using animation
mods, that many were “mod beasts” or at least modded, and that a lot of them expected you to see their modded characters, otherwise
they wouldn’t even really talk to you. Not to forget the whispers from strangers: “Mare?”
I didn’t feel much like attending such events anymore. It really stole a lot of the fun for me.
And it’s not just me. I’ve heard the same from many others. I think Mare users often have no empathy for how much they’ve hurt the player base.
It’s not just something on their private PC anymore. Mare brought it into the active gameplay.
Please don’t hate on me, but I honestly hope there won’t be a real successor to Mare.
Use your mods, take screenshots, just like before Mare came along. That’s not hurting anyone.
But letting mods reach so deeply into the active gameplay of the entire player base is not a good thing.

I think it’s obvious what I mean. I won’t get into pointless discussions that don’t lead anywhere. No offense intended. D :

Hit a critical mass. They have the don't ask don't tell rule. But players feel that their mods are too big to fail and would kill the game if it were ever touched.
Me personally i find that extremely disrespectful, imagine a community telling you that your game can't survive on its own two legs because the only reason why is does, is a unsupported mod that the players think is too popular to be touched and openly flaunt it.

Always used in-game lore/content to RP, so not much changed.
Hard agree. It was only a matter of time before the bubble burst.Hit a critical mass. They have the don't ask don't tell rule. But players feel that their mods are too big to fail and would kill the game if it were ever touched.

What's really sad is that Square actually tried to allow players to have their fun under the simple rule 'Don't ask us.'

Mare codes were being posted on adventurer plates, in PF advertisements, and in shout chat - and not even with a wink wink, nudge nudge different name. (Smarter RPers called it the 'venue code' but allegedly some people just straight up use 'mare code' on their plates.)
They were talking about Fight Club too openly.

Nothing 'going down' right now gets in the way of RP, unless your version of RP requires modding the game.
WAR don't get changes because they don't need changes. They only need more enemies to cleave.
Let's not forget Billboards!Mare codes were being posted on adventurer plates, in PF advertisements, and in shout chat - and not even with a wink wink, nudge nudge different name. (Smarter RPers called it the 'venue code' but allegedly some people just straight up use 'mare code' on their plates.)

It would not matter, so regardless of whatever, yes, anything else is just making up excuses and that decided to play the game for wrong reasons.

Granted. But it seems shortsighted to do this at this particular point when subs are desperately needed to maintain a healthy player count, and considering this was also something purely cosmetic without any bearing on gameplay.Hit a critical mass.
