FF14 is more or less a reflection of the real world with a magnifying glass on it because people present behaviors that would have been suppressed or that they wouldn't have had opportunities to express in real-world situations. That's why you see the dudes in women's glams, or furry's, or people who have lots of simulated erotic encounters, or the plethora of everything else that would take a day to list. Those forms of "taboo" expressions are what lies in the heart of humanity for the most part, and yes, this does include the socially exclusionary behaviors you see in party finder, and even boring people who have done the same thing for the past 15 years. The game - like many online games, is an outlet where people can safely (mostly <.<) explore the way they really are without having to worry about their way of life being destroyed due to some form of prejudice, morality, or otherwise systematic obstruction.
And that's kinda it. You can form your opinion on the emergent player behaviors from this phenomena, and likewise we can disagree or agree as we see fit. I personally hate the 18+ shouts in every city-state and zone in the game, that's why I use term filters. Welcome to MMO's homie. There are safe spaces for people who are against all of that - they're called churches

Live and let live. Personally, if I there is something I'm into, I'll take part; if there is something I'm not into, I ignore it and go about my day. I find that to be a lot easier than being angry and bitter. Inner peace is a wonderful thing.
