On the Moogle Treasure Trove events

Now, to start, I love these events, but I've identified an issue with the Moogle Treasure Trove - mogtomes as I and some in my circles have come to call them.

Simply put, the personal challenges have a tendency to assume that every character is at or above the maximum level of the event and selects challenges that are entirely beyond our newer players, making it impossible for them to earn challenge rewards even if they focus leveling for the entire week.

The events are, in my opinion, a fun way to encourage playing older content, but they can be extremely discouraging if you're staring at a level 90 challenge when you are a mere level 50. Yeah, you can just do the stuff available at your level, but it would be more encouraging to participate if the challenges selected from stuff actually within a player's Main Scenario progress.

As a self-labeled alt addict, I collected data this last treasure trove of just how often my lower level characters were faced with this issue in this Google spreadsheet.

I hope, in sharing this data, that I can get some attention to the problem, because it's been a problem as long as this iteration of the event has been happening. This was simply the first time I had a way to record my observations neatly.

Side note, I had no idea where to put this. Hence, it's ended up stuck in general.

Thank you for posting this and the really nicely formatted spreadsheet! You've basically summed up my frustration with playing almost any character besides my main, which, arguably need the goodies from this far more. While I understand trying to add more recent duties/content to the event, it probably needs something like Wondrous Tails to somewhat guide what is available to each character.

My own opinion is I completely agree - seeing ???? pop up for goals is frustrating and deflating.

My playing devil's advocate - I see why SE does it. It's a matter of considering the intended audience. Mogtomes weren't introduced for low-level players. Mogtomes were introduced for max-level, long-time veterans to have an opportunity at getting minions, mounts, etc. that they weren't able to get when they were "current." The event exists to encourage max-level players to remain subscribed (or re-subscribe) in the run-up to a new patch, so it randomly picks from anything because the intended audience are people who will likely already have everything unlocked. Low-level players miss out because they pure and simple aren't the focus of the event.

On that note, the one thing I'd wish would change, though, was the RNG behind it. I would get really frustrated if my lower-level toon couldn't do the challenge while my buddy's same-lower-level toon *can* just because mine picked a higher-level event while his didn't. It should be RNG, but within certain level ranges only.

Can serve both long-time players and newer ones with one event. Honestly, adding gold saucer stuff and ocean fishing to the events outright invites novices to join in. Ocean fishing can be done from level 1, and everything in the gold saucer is available from level 15.

All I'd like to see change is the weekly challenges. Be it limited to within X level above them - encouraging a bit of leveling to reach - or no higher than a character's Main Scenario Quest progress, meaning it could be locked if you're too low level. IE: someone level 15 couldn't do the weekly challenges until they reached the lowest challenge duties on the list.
Level 30 being likely, since the event usually includes Frontlines and Hidden Gorge. Though... I've never seen Frontlines as the weekly challenge.

I agree with you and somewhat with the person that commented before me. While they may have intended this for higher level players, making lower level content lucrative for tomes shows that even lower level players should be able to play it. It is also unfair to exclude a large chunk of players from what is meant to be a fun pre-patch event.
The way it is set up encourages unlocking side content most of the time, so scaling that to the character's level range is far better. I don't want to image the wall of code they'll be building, but I hope this thread shows people would appreciate the effort to not miss out on what tend to be unobtainable items every tome event.

It should just achievement check the player to see what expansions they've completed and give appropriate activities.

That might be a good way to do it.
Need more ideas for how to manage this. Maybe someone can spark something that's more easily done and just make it easier for the devs to offer us a better version?

Yes, this is a common complaint. The challenges need some sort of MSQ qualifier so the challenges given are within the realm of a player's progress in the MSQ. Level 50 characters should not be getting level 90 duties. Most of these instances are "Everyone has to do X" which is why you see people crowding a specific Triple Triad opponent, for example, but they need to be more open to the idea that Minimog and maybe even Ultimog can vary based on the player's MSQ progress.

Weekly can already vary, so there's no reason they can't limit that by MSQ progress.

Hadn't even thought of limiting minimog and ultimog, figured the "everyone gets the same" part of those exempt them, but you have a point.

It generally wouldn't hurt to remember that the millions of players are all different levels of progress, some just starting out, some at every different expansion's level cap, and many between the caps. All should have the same chance to participate, and not be locked out by the RNG laughing at them.
One of my alts had literally never gotten a weekly challenge she could do before this last event... and she only got one this time. She's one of my oldest alts, going slowly because I made her to challenge myself - all jobs I'm not good at to force myself to improve - that shouldn't mean she can't have nice stuff just because I'm struggling to level her.
