Is a key or copy of FFXIV still available?

I noticed the Square Enix store and the FFXIV Main website didn't have the game for sale anymore. My friend has it downloaded from when it was free to play, and he would like to pay for a subscription now.

Is there a way he can buy a key or copy or digital copy in order to play the game as of now?

If he had an account he'll have to download the client from somewhere online then re-subscribe, from my understand you can't purchase it and make new accounts anymore until ARR. Not 100% though..

Well this was a about two or three months ago but my GF downloaded the game and key from Game stops steam like client. maybe check steam or the game stop download client.

Digital downloads were removed from pretty much everywhere a few days ago.

When it was "free to play" it was only free to play for people who already bought the game unless you're talking about open beta. If he can get the client installed and patched he just has to start paying sub fees.

This is correct. If he was playing at all after release all he has to do is go into his account info and sign up for service. You can probably find the client itself for download somewhere if he's like me and joined with a buddy pass.
