I'm not demanding anything. The change I an others have suggested is just that. A suggestion. I believe it would lead to better retention and less frustration, potentially for players across the entire skill spectrum. It's certainly possible SE would find a way to eff it up (have you seen the latest PvP changes?).

But it's something for the remaining players to figure out. I'm free of it.

Appreciate the help, was aware, but I needn't have been. Believe it or not I spent quite a lot of time watching videos by folks like Wesk and Cae and others to better understand mechanics, rotations, and all the rest of it. Guess I'm unusually bad at this particular game.

Oh and FWIW, Bardam's Mettle is by far my least favorite dungeon from that xpac.
I still don't understand why dying and trying again is a concept that seems unfathomable to some here. So what you struggle with mechanics, so what if you die, so what if you try again? Where is the actual issue?

Accepting help from others and relying on others sometimes is not a weakness. You will adapt in time, and you will be able to do it as well. And if it's way beyond anything that you can ever achieve/ "master" in this game, there are plenty of people who can help you/carry you.

Take a game like Elden Ring - When I first got to Margit, he stomped me. It wasn't even close, I was unprepared skill/item/level wise, so I went somewhere else first. That said, I could conceivably see a way to beat him. I could see his moves, albeit delayed like a mfer, and realize that I could dodge everything, if I was good enough.

With FFXIV sometimes, especially newer fights, oftentimes there is so much going on, and I'm already just struggling to do my combos, I don't see any sort of tell on what the enemy is going to do, and the visual effects going on are so overwhelming, I die, and honestly, I have no clue why I died, or what skill I need to look out for. The game gives me zero feedback on the mechanic that killed me.

I play mostly with Trusts, so when I die, the fight simply restarts, and I'm left trying to struggle through the fight again. So far at least, I eventually either luck through the trouble section, or I have to read/watch a guide to figure out the mechanics. Almost never though, am I able to sort through the mechanic alone, not sure why, maybe I just don't bash my head against the fight enough before looking for guidance. Having to look at guides for every fight isn't really fun, but I just can't follow a lot of the newer more fast paced fights.

To be clear, not saying fights should be a lot easier, I haven't even played the newer content, just sharing my mindset of how I get overwhelmed and why dying and trying over and over again doesn't really help for some of us.

I mean, being overwhelmed in a new fight it's completely normal. It seems a lot is going on, but after a while, you adjust. You learn to filter out non-essential things and focus on what is important.

As for combos and mechanics, that's fine. Dropping a combo or simply stopping to dps so you can figure out a mechanic is a totally valid way to do it. It's still better than dying or taking damage for every single mechanic. There are very few instances where the boss is enraged due to low dps, and I doubt that even if you hardly do any damage, you will be the sole cause of the alliance raid wipe.

Honestly, when I start a new fight (savage or ultimate) in the beginning, I do 0 damage. This allows me to learn the moves and where to stand/ how to resolve. DPS is only relevant when you reach enrage or you have seen enough mechanics, and you want to optimize.

this is an mmo, just do it with others and you will be fine. When someone dies 10 times to this boss, then I just keep ressing him and the other members of the group help with killing the add. Theres literally 0 issue

Oh well. We could but ask.

I guess us lazy insta win visual novel players will have to pursue the possibility of a more viable Cash Shop alternative, which certainly has no negative ramifications for everyone who is content with denying even bare minimum safety nets, in the long term. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The new aoe spam mechanics full time isn't fun. I clear dungeons and don't go back sorry I don't find it fun at all. I cap with hunts and have fun with pvp. I sincerely hope they tone it down for 8.0. I've been playing this game since 2.0 Beta and I never felt this way.

I used to have issues with windups seemingly happening too fast or not getting enough time to get out of the way during DT content. But with a new set-up and updated drivers, I found I had plenty of time to figure out where the lines are going to go. Perhaps with the updated graphics and them no longer being chained to ps3, your pc's settings are just enough to slip into not being able to have everything render in time to give you enough time to react?
