I don't think that is the case. I won't ever buy a game based off a review. I will look at Amazon feedback to see if there are game breaking bugs, if not, I just buy it. It is really hard to listen to reviews because everyone has different taste. A lot of reviewers didn't like the Drop System in Kingdom Hearts 3DS, I however found it very innovative.

At this point I know what I want and I don't need to rely on others feedback to make my decision to buy a game. Everyone lashed out at Ninja Gaiden 3, and I thought it was a decent game. It didn't feel much like a NG, but I still enjoyed the game.

I am also against a scoring system in most review sites. A lot of people don't even bother reading why it got the score. They see a 7 or 8 and believe it is a bad game. I don't recall 7 or 8 being bad numbers. Why must people's standards be set so high today? Back then, anything 6+, people still thought it was a game with potential and one they would play. Even at 5, people questioned it, but tried it anyways. Today, if a game gets 7, a lot of people don't even want to look at it, or cause an uproar on the internet (See the Gamespot Skyward Sword Review if you need a good idea.).

As for FFXIV: ARR, I hope reviewers do review it fairly and not attempt to bash it because it is a revamp of a previous game. It seems to be the case with a lot of reviewers today in general. As much as I don't like reviews, it is a tool that is needed to get this game it's high player base. I don't want to see it get a low score because they didn't like the grass.
