Please just add a priority system to the 2nd dye slot...

Things like ^this^ are a waste of the 2nd dye slot.

There are many items where dye slot 1 changes multiple areas to different shades of the same colour.

When dye slot 2 was added in patch 7.0, these 1st dye slots on these items were not split, meaning that in many cases the only remaining areas which could be assigned to dye slot 2 were small and pointless - such as the tiny circles in the image above, or a button on a jacket. Quite disappointing.

I assume the reason for this was that the developers didn't want to disrupt any existing player outfits made before 7.0. If that's truly the reason, I disagree with it - but there's an easy workaround that would avoid the issue nonetheless; a priority system.

What do I mean by that? Let's use the body item pictured above as an example. With a priority system:

    - Dye slot 1 would behave the same as it does currently. The metal and fabric are both dyed red.

    - Dye slot 2 could include certain areas that are also assigned to slot 1, but it would be given a higher priority. When a dye is added to slot 2, it would overwrite those areas which overlap with slot 1.

    Currently:
Dye Slot 1: Metal + Fabric
Dye Slot 2: Tiny circle details, I guess

    With priority system:
Dye Slot 1: Metal + Fabric
Dye Slot 2: Fabric (Overwrites the fabric colour from slot 1)

In the latter case, the metal on the arms would be red and the fabric on the torso would be green. Outfits created by players before 7.0 would remain unchanged, and the allocation of dye slots would make much more sense. Problem solved!

This solution should be very easy to implement, and I'm surprised it wasn't designed this way from the start. I doubt the developers will read this, but please consider adding this feature and redoing the 2nd dye slots for older items to work this way.

That's odd, I could see it. Should be fixed now.

Oh my god, Imgur keeps deleting the image for "violating the rules". I've uploaded it to a different site now, should be fixed for real this time.

I don't understand why they can't just follow this basic rule:

    Judge by Surface coverage.

Dye #1 the largest pixel count channels
Dye #2 the second largest pixel count channel

It's brainless, and would yield much better results.

Below we have a transcription of what Naoki Yoshi-P Yoshida said at PAX:
    - "For some players, like me, I kind of get sleepy because it's so repetitive."

Please Square-Enix, stop doing nonsenses with the second dye channel. Change the way you're doing it! You're doing it wrong!

Remember what you said when the feature was announced:
...so you'll just have to sort of trust in the aesthetic sense of our design team to make sure that the right parts are being dyed. But even though we can't promise you'll be able to dye every single bit, we are doing our best to make sure that we are giving you the best options possible to customize your gear as much as possible and/with the greatest amount of surface area being dyed.
I'm sorry but your design team have NO aesthetic sense at this point!

Wow that is a totally useless second dye channel on that set. If that was done to save someone from having to dye the item again that's pretty ridiculous.

Yea thats never gone get fixed. Might as well forget about it. devs said they would always give the biggest area to dye so its not like this bad but devs also lie non stop. This is 100% will repeat and has as its not the only gear that has gotten this type of dye this patch let alone since 7.0 released.

There’s a similar set from PvP series rewards, can’t remember the name off the top of my head, where the first dye channel covers most of the armor, but the metallic trim is the second dye channel for some pieces but not the others! So in the picture I saw, you can make boots red with gold trim, but the trim on the gloves didn’t dye and stayed silver and the second dye channel was the little straps on the sides of the gloves!
