    Please don't match gold players with unranked players

    The faster queue pop is not worth it.

    You'll frequently have games where the match-up is:

    1 gold, 1-2, bronze, 1-2 unranked

    vs.

    a team full of silvers or 1 gold, 1-2 silvers, 1-2 bronzes.


    In the vast majority of the cases those matches are lost from the start.
    Most of the time you just can't carry 1-2 completely inexperienced players against a team full of silver-ish players who may not be the best but generally know what to do. Even if you have twice the damage and K/A output.
    And I wish those unranked players were just alts. But from what I've experienced over and over again many of them really are new.

    I know the reasoning is to ensure seamless queue popping for lower ranks but esp. now that the player pools of several data centers have been merged that argument has been weakened.

    Ultimately those set-ups are still a bigger waste of time for both gold and unranked players than having to wait a bit longer for a more balanced game. You'll waste time in the match itself and lose the time spent on your progress and the need to now regain it.
    And with the match making being such a lottery you won't always get it back so easily.

    For unranked newcomers getting stomped a lot is probably not the best way to ease them into ranked either.

    To be honest it's the same at all ranks, on NA and EU especially. The population is way too low to accommodate for stricter brackets in terms of matchmaking. Play at Diamond level and you'll be paired with all the people stuck at the bottom at plat 4 that can't demote and the skill gap is already there. Play at high Crystal level and you'll be paired with low crystal and especially Diamond players and the skill discrepancy is probably equivalent to the one between a gold and a diamond player.

    They tried to boost the player pool by forcing everybody on the same DC, but I do feel that it's not even working that much since it just turns off a lot of players that can't be bothered moving DCs (and losing access to everything else in the game while they do so). Ultimately I don't have metrics, SE probably have them, but I'm really not enthused by those changes.

    Fact is, pvp is inbred, always has been, you always meet the same ten players no matter what, and I haven't the slightest idea how it could be improved. There was a lot more players coming to the mode in the first two seasons of CC, perhaps the novelty?

    Even with merge .the population that plays pvp in ranked mode is quite less.

    I've noticed a bunch of these unranked players have never touched casual CC even once.

    Doing less than 10k damage and having >5 deaths.

    Any ranked system that isn't pure MMR based is just pointless. It's not about only matching people of similar skills. You can have lopsided teams if the result of the match is weighed on which team was more stacked to begin with.

    If a team of average rank bronze beats an average rank gold team, the Gold team should lose a lot of rank while the bronzes gains a lot. In reality, this will rarely happen but the bronze team should barely lose anything from losing a match they were expected to lose anyways.

    Also, people at the lowest rank needs to be able to derank. If someone jumps in with zero knowledge of the mode and basically feeds all game, they need to be drop in MMR instead of being equivalent to that person who just started rank but is actually trying to improve.

    The wider the range in matchmaking, the easier it will be for a win trading alt to arrange games. As seen yet again on EU last season not even a week ago btw, they use 9 accounts in dead times in the morning that boost each other by taking advantage of the win streak system (which ensures an average of climbing), then match against their main in diam/crystal to boost their rating as high as possible because the matchmaking will keep putting their crystal main in diamond games where the 9 other alts can keep profiting from the win streaks to stay in diam anyway.
