Because you're not directly paying for the system. You're paying for the transfer. Technically.

Like I can be subbed for housing, but that's not what I'm paying for. Im paying for access to XIV, not housing directly. (Your house doesn't get demolished w/o a subscription active. But it can be demolished with an active subscription as well. Which is why, they can say, housing isn't tied to your subscription, because technically it isnt, you need to go inside it at some point to keep it. But that requires a subscription at some point. But it is not required to have a current active subscription to keep your plot.)

Its all about how they de-fang your argument, by offering you an alternative. Like if you don't want to pay for a transfer, free transfers exist.

- If server is dead, just transfer -> not square's fault
- If you can't get a house, just transfer -> no no it's not their crap system design
- If you have a house you won't lose it, but you need subscription but you also don't need it.

Biggest comment that equals to "leave this multi-billion company alone" meme.

You are paying subscription so you can access the whole damn game and square is trying to limit you from owning a house because their system is insanely bad. Anyone who denies this is a big shiller or someone who owns lots of plots and is happy that they can deny people from getting one.

They only require sub for this system because it's the only way to make you be subbed forever or they will lose lots and lots of players.

I understand folks frustration with the FF XIV housing system. Ultimately your not "entitled" to a housing plot...heck not even a apartment. That's a feature not a bug. FFXIV is pretty transparent that not all players will ultimately be on equal footing - only that they will all have the same chances at success. Every lotto is the same chances for every person and what you might want won't be in every lotto and some will take longer then others.

With a few VERY small exceptions every world still always has homes up every lotto - whether you are 1 of 3 bids or 1 of 2000000 bids - your chances of winning are still the same as every other bidder. The people that may own multiple plots are not bad actors - merely successful which is proof that the system is not as impossible as those frustrated would believe.

That depends entirely on who you're referring to here. If you're talking about someone who has an FC house and a personal house, then no, they're not bad actors. If you're talking about people who buy up entire housing wards, then yeah, I would call them bad actors. They may not be TECHNICALLY breaking the rules any more than the folks who bought out entire wards with click bots and such from before the lottery was implemented (or reselling land at obscene prices from the very early days), but they're not playing fairly either.

Because let's face it, it's a LOT easier to win a house when you've got several entries on it from alts or alt accounts or whatever the current scheme to wriggle around the rules and restrictions is.

And that kind of thing is what upsets a lot of people. Completely justifiably. Because they're playing by the rules AND spirit of the game and getting the short end of the stick, which is not fair at all. What's worse is that Square won't, or can't, penalize these people because they didn't TECHNICALLY break the rules and they've got an established policy of grandfathering people who own entire wards into new systems when changes are made... which doesn't help the housing shortage at all.

I also fundamentally disagree with you about people not being entitled to housing. It's a major feature of the game, and is advertised as one of the selling points the same as glamour, raids, or anything other content. Therefore, everyone absolutely SHOULD have access to play that content if they want to.
