League levels of toxic behavour in game.

Honestly I remember first playing years ago and the community being some of the best I've ever had.

Being one of the people who quit WoW during Shadowlands and coming to FF it was a joy. People were friendly and helpful. Even the randoms in dungeons were nice and polite.

However since I've been back I've noticed just such a rise in openly hostile and nasty behaviour in game.

I have been a tank player for pretty much the whole time I've played MMORPGs. I'm not the best but I know what I'm doing.

However in dungeons recently there has been so many cases of DPS players using every mobility skill they have to rush ahead of me in the dungeon, pulling packs, demanding I then save them. (Despite the fact I'm doing everything in my power to go as fast as possible) If they die I get a ton of abuse. If I ask them even politely to slow down just a bit to allow me to pull so I'm not having to chase after them and then split up to get the ones who then agrro on the healer who is trying to save their ass.

Sorry but I for me personally I believe the tank should be the one to pull the packs and bosses. Every dungeon I do I go as fast as possible doing wall to wall pulls ect. The only times I slow down is if the healer is struggling or for example just before the final boss to allow a first timer to watch the cutscene and not have the group already whaling on the boss.

I understand that most people have done dungeons hundreds of times. I have too, but come on. Do people not realise by pulling as a DPS they run the risk of slowing down the dungeon? Especially if they die or I as the tank have to chase around the mobs who split off to attack everyone else but me.

To any DPS player out there who pulls.

Get a friend who tanks and then do that. Don't do that to a random tank who is trying their best.

This is more on the healer than the tank

As an example if a DPS pulls ahead of the tank when I’m the healer then the tank pulls it off them then that’s totally fine; the DPS’s health bar is Just an extension of the tanks. If the DPS is so far ahead or the tank slow enough that I have to power heal the DPS then that’s kinda bad

I’m just of a middling opinion that if the healer is comfortable then there is no problem, if the DPS doing this overwhelms the healer and it slows down the run and they keep doing it that’s a problem. But if they do it and the healer is comfortable (not like the healer has much else to do) then there isn’t a problem

So yeah bad if they kept doing it after it noticeably slowed down the run but if if didn’t change anything or just made the flow slightly smoother then I don’t see a problem

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

they made enmity generation a complete non-issue for multiple expansions now and you people still piss and moan about having to press two buttons.

tbh i dont understand how tanks are that far behind a dps. like, are you standing still on the first pack? you have sprint and can aoe on the go. and, for the dps, i mean i have no problem if they do it while i tank. i have no problem doing it, when i dps. but use arm's length and bloodbath. should really be a non-issue

I still experience this, personally. However, I play in the NA region.

Whenever I've played in the EU region over the years, it's been pretty toxic in everything from dungeons to trials. People in (easy) trials were attacked for their damage output, while a returning tank was berated and attacked the entire way through Heroes' Gauntlet to the point I felt deeply uncomfortable and felt like it was so bad that my silence might be seen as associating myself with them, so I tried to sort of say something neutral but comforting to mitigate it a bit... but it was really bad. And that was just when I logged into EU for a day a few years ago. It happened a lot in roulettes.

Don't get me wrong, there are lots of very nice, the most nicest people in the EU region and that may even be the majority, but a certain percentage of people there are the sweaty or blunt types that will not hold back even if they're breaking the rules, to the point you can rather frequently come across them in a roulette. Some of it may be cultural or due to language barriers skipping the pleasantries as well.

However in dungeons recently there has been so many cases of DPS players using every mobility skill they have to rush ahead of me in the dungeon, pulling packs
The few times I have gone to play in the EU region, I have noticed this as well. For context, I have also tanked for 10 years playing this game. Nobody outruns me in the NA region EVER. I am as fast as you can possibly get, and I even have no doubt that my example has been observed by people and copied by aspiring tanks given how long I've been doing it.

But when I went to the EU region, I noticed a difference. Despite that it is hard to outrun me, some of them sort of caught up to me and still attempted to outpace me. In practice, the best they did was got at the same pace as me, but it was certainly not how people behave in the NA region.

Don't get me wrong, people will get impatient and run ahead in the NA region sometimes, but they generally do this only if the tank is actually slow and not pulling much. In EU they're less likely to even respect the fact you're going fast and want you to go yet faster somehow and will still try to beat you at pulling mobs.

Anyway, my advice to minimize this behaviour is to do big pulls as a tank, press Sprint immediately after battle ends so it lasts 20 seconds, time the AoE to hit the enemies as you pass through them so you don't need to stop, click enemies in the list that don't have a red icon and hit Provoke if you missed them, and if an enemy goes on a healer/DPS leave it and continue sprinting (you can pick it up later).

If they say something rude in the chat, report it so that a GM warns them. It's hard to judge actions but if they say something rude or hurtful to you, then GMs take it seriously.

Pulling ahead of the tank isn't anything new, but if you're being verbally abused then report them and move on. If it's a breach of ToS the GMs will do something about it. A forum thread isn't going to change anything about your dungeon runs.

I agree with OP. It's annoying and unhelpful when the dps goes ahead and pulls before the tank gets there. I wish people wouldn't do that. Did I miss the lesson in Hall of the Novice where the tank has to be Usain Bolt and go as fast as possible in every dungeon? It's totally between the tank and the healer how much the tank pulls and how fast they should go. Dps have the easiest job in the game and should just go along for the ride and chill out. It's a pity blacklisting people won't help. Personally I think it's a reportable action because it's aiding the enemy by trying to get yourself killed and make more work for the tank and healer, but I could never be bothered to actually report anyone. Please people, let the tank do their job and accept that not every dungeon is going to be over in world record time.

Having said that, despite what you have to say Jeeq, I've played extensively on EU, JP and OCE over the last 6 years and come across 95% patient and understanding players - especially on JP. For instance on Eu recently I've been in parties with tanks that were maybe new to the role, pulled one mob at a time, got lost a bit and everyone else just quietly got on with it fine. It's a tiny minority who spoil things by thinking they're more important than everyone else.

That's what I liked about WoW if someone was acting like an arse, you could say something to them. Here it's almost like they are baiting you to say something so they can report you for bad behavior.

BUT HONESTLY, the dungeons don't matter, the design is boring and built for people with Adhd and lack of commitment and time, so I don't even bother getting mad over it. This game isn't for an actual MMo experience, it's a storygame with the best roleplay features.

Just switch off your brain, and do a single aoe and you get aggro back. If they die its their own fault, don't feel obligated to save them from their own stupidity and lack of patience. Pull at the healers pace though, they ACTUALLY matter. You dont need to care about the dps, they are irrelevantt in the big picture.

Anyone with a dash that doesn't need a target. Reaper and dancer can really zoom ahead of even a sprinting tank.

To the OP, if the dps bring mobs back to the tank's AoE range then it's not really a problem unless the healer is overwhelmed and tells them to stop. If they run off to Narnia with mobs, then that's on them. I don't necessarily a agree with Supersnow that it was the healer's fault for trying to help but I do think it's better if the healer left them to their fate if they didn't bring mobs back to the tank.

I'm not a career tank, so I'm just speaking as a deeps, but I've always been a believer in the "tanks set the pace" and "you pull it, you tank it" schools of thought. So that's the way I play. If I pull mobs, it's 100% accident. I'm not running off being an ******* or whatever.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with other players where you're playing. You're welcome over on Crystal! People here are pretty awesome here.

I'm not gonna say the grass is necessarily greener here, I'm sure there are ******** here, but I run into toxicity so rarely I can't even recall the last time it happened.
