It was fun for a bit, when I just started out. But, as soon as I reached max Knowledge level, it became clear that this content is a huge step down from what came before.

What do you actually do in OC? You do one CE, you do one Fate, repeat. That's it. Sure, the CEs were fun at first, but after 20 times? They're easy, boring, and repetitive. There's almost no interaction with phantom jobs. You will spend 95% of your time with this content making no decisions, having no high moments, just following the train. One might say: "but this is what people did in Zadnor!" Sure, but the Zadnor fate train also leveled your (real) jobs, and ultimately, it was a degenerate game state that should have been avoided.

At least there's gold grinding. But this is a small diversion that you hardly do. And Forked Tower is a non-element. It's too difficult for pug groups to clear, so no one queues for it outside premades.

This is such a huge downgrade from Bozja, even at launch. In Bozja (and Eureka) you triggered CEs by killing specific mobs. This was fun! It meant that you were rewarded for making optimal decisions, tracking CE cooldowns, and working together with other players to optimize spawns. You could progress relics and farm resources at the same time. Not to mention, Bozja had Duels and puggable raids to further break up gameplay. (I'm focusing on Bozja, but Eureka is similarly better than OC.)

But that's just mechanics. Bozja has so much more soul than OC. Fates and CEs weren't just random monsters (well, some were), but part of storylines with recurring characters. I loved fighting Lyon each time, like a rival. I love that other players were encouraged to watch duels, cheering you on and benefiting with a buff if you win. Bozja felt like the devs really cared about making this as good as they can. I feel none of that love in OC.

I don't believe for a second that the same devs that made Eureka and Bozja made OC. Perhaps they were busy and left this content to the junior devs. Rather than "taking the best parts of Eureka and Bozja" it feels like they stripped down the baseline mechanics shared between each, made them even simpler, and then added nothing new.

How can things be improved? Make every CE spawn from killing specific mobs, and buff XP and silver rates a bit to compensate. Heavily nerf the drop rates of the chests, and remove loot that came from older content (as it is, OC merely existing makes Bozja less profitable). Valuable chest drops should be rare! Add tradable, consumable loot to replace the lost fragment market. Either nerf FT to be puggable, or introduce new content that is. Update CEs to interact more with the utility added by PJobs. Let us level our actual jobs. Add Duels, or something equivalently exciting to take their place. Change the relic step to be repeatable (but quicker), replacing the tome dump step.

Does this sound like a lot of dev work? Yes! But it's work that was done in Bozja.
