A more forgiving item restoration policy

The one-time item restoration policy is a bit unforgiving. It would be nice to have a little bit more leeway when it comes to accidental purchases from in-game NPCs, especially if it involves having purchased items that in no way will ever be usable. Even a partial refund of game currency would be better than the "We can't help you because you have already used your one-time restoration before." I understand being more diligent before clicking yes on a purchase, but even just a little bit more wiggle room on this would be nice.

The good thing about it being once only is you instill the fear or making such a GM call needing to be worth it.
Lesson learned for sure, taking great care in expensive purchases.

One time I donated my UWU weapon into the GC. When the GMs told me the item restoration was a one-time thing I was like nah, I'm good, I'll just clear again T_T I'd rather save it for something that I truly can't obtain again, but it still sucks. I agree with OP. At least don't put a limit on things you can't obtain anymore, so people won't annoy GMs for every little thing but those who literally can't recover their stuff don't get locked out of it?

I really think this issue needs a lot more attention. As it currently is, it feels hostile towards players, and the reasoning of not wanting GMs to be flooded with ticket requests just feels bad, but for some reason we accept "do not bother us" as a good excuse that this archaic limit is still in place.

When you look at other MMOs, just take WoW for example cause I have personal experience with it, (but have heard of others being more player friendly as well,) Blizzard has a tool on their website that allows players to do their own restoration, I will quote the Blizzard site...

    Find what you lost

After selecting your character, we'll show you a list of items your character vendored, destroyed, or disenchanted. Select the items you want restored.

    Check your mail

After we process your request, we'll mail your items directly to your character's mailbox in the game. We'll reclaim any enchanting materials you received when we restore disenchanted items.
That is a direct quote from the item restoration help page.
It has a 24 hour cooldown, but virtually no limit besides that.

The fact that XIV only offers you one item restoration ever, and makes that known in a way that feels like a scare tactic so we don't contact them is something that really should change. Give players more control over their accounts, and develop a tool that takes the issue out of the hands of GMs if their time is so valuable.

In XIV, if you fail to obtain an item because your inventory is full, it is lost to the void forever, and GMs refuse to/cannot help you recover that item. That is not the case in other games.

Be willing to help players, and help them help themselves.
