Yeah, that's the most likely approach. We retain level 100 as numerical and get another arbitrary number to keep track of.
Personally, I think a level squish would be more ideal. That approach is highly unlikely, however.
An ever climbing iLVL like we get in patch content is probably the *easiest* route for the devs, but that would really screw the gear economy pretty quickly.
Should just get rid of the level cap and make it infinite and make gear auto scale to level.

I think they'll copy WoW, let it go to about 120 then do a massive squish.
Damage, stats and levels.
If I recall - Yoshi P said there are no plans for any "stat squishes" for 8.0.
Let's be real here - they are just going to raise the cap to 110 in 8.0 and call it a day.
