Story and Beastmen, que?

So, the main storyline was pretty heavily focused on beastmen. What ever happened to them, they just kinda got the boot so to speak. I was wondering what their roll was in this story, when all this stuff was going on~ What do you guys think/know?

Beastmen, Ascians, our Path Companions are said to be returning in 2.0.

Basically, they needed to write a reason for the 2.0 changes, so the Seventh Umbral Events were created and took priority.
