That or standardizing pulse animations from center to edge of the AoE to align with when they'll go off. But, tbh, I more often get annoyed by just how many indicators there are, more so than by those indicators not indicating everything. (Wouldn't mind seeing that as sort of an Echo-mechanic, though.)

Honestly, what I think I'd like most is just to have a much greater number of AoEs have fall-off. It feels very weird that on an explosion, being just 0.01% of the way into the explosion is 100% of the damage while being 0.01% further away is 100% less damage.

That and I'd like a quick indicator of the bounds of AoEs after being struck by or narrowly dodging them.

...And ideally, just for aesthetic's sake, I'd like those indicators' disappearance to time out far closer to the actual animation passing through that area, even if that means that the animation starts before the indicator disappears fully.

Oh, I think you misunderstood what I mean. SE is actually adding that in 7.3.

That would make sense, although in fairness they do have that as a concept with proximity AoEs. They just don't necessarily use them for things like self-destruct explosions.

One way or another, it's an unusual design choice combined with questionable code decisions that never seem to improve despite a decade of technology advances that should, in theory, allow for things to to be faster.

No, I'm aware; sorry for the confusing wording on my part. Just meant they also could have made more use of information in what we're already typically looking down at in what cases they want us to have that info, since they also already have the "wave going through AoE shows when AoE will go off".

I know. I just think it should be used more often, especially on attacks whose visuals would suggest that being in the middle of said visuals ought to hurt more than being at the periphery.

It is a good idea and maybe would help reduce snapshotting being as an issue for newer players as often.

The issue is that the game is not very clear, and often inconsistent, with when the snapshot happens. Sometimes it's before the orange AoE is gone, sometimes it's right as it vanishes, sometimes it's when the cast bar is finished (which may or may not coincide with the orange AoE)... it's trial and error, but it feels unfair when there is no way to tell which one is which until you get slapped lol

The cast bar is the most reliable one, but honestly, when it doubt, I'd rather book it early and lose a bit of uptime than straight up die. The DPS/utility loss is higher in those cases.

I don't know other people. But I will play this game until I have patience. If it runs out, I'll just uninstall it from my computer and forget this forum exists.

Because different people have different points of no-return, and where one stopped having fun as early as 5.0, someone else stopped having fun during 7.0. And someone has fun even now.

Personally, I'll likely stay with the game until its last breath. While there are things I'm not happy with, I typically enter every expansion without hard set expectations, so I'm able to find joy even in patches of arguably questionable quality. The only time when I felt legitimate burnout was during Pagos. I also admittedly dropped some tiers in Savage, but that's less the game issue, and more so my static issue (which I left, and have no desire to join another for now).

As a mostly solo-player, I'm also not attached to the prospect of my friends or FC members not playing anymore, especially since we all have points of contact outside of the game. I am however attached to my WoL and him as my original character with his own backstory and lore, so my own character is motivation enough for me to log in, as long as the game actually works.

But that's just me, and you're unlikely to see me among those who post "I'll leave if X.X patch doesn't provide Y" comments anyway, even when I do voice my complaints (which isn't that often).

Though to be fair I think a lot of people like Mao have already quit. So that's awesome. But it looks like the remaining people are like just trapped in this eternal red line shifting.

"I'm waiting until..." Bro just stop, just quit now lmao.

    It's NOT GETTING BETTER lmao!
I did quit before 7.1, but returned by 7.3 just for the sake of my roleplaying community. I really get a lot of weekly fun out of that, so that's what I'm basically paying for: a platform to RP behind a popular IP.

I still do the game's content and High End (though I'm waiting for 7.4 to jump back into that, since I'm a PF raider), but if my RP group dwindles again, I'll just unsub once more.

Maybe one day XIV will be once again good enough to hold me up even when I'm not roleplaying.

I think the refusal to calmly discuss the fact DT's general difficulty being higher across the board has likely pushed out a substantial number of players is a little sad. We're all in the "hardcore" side of the player base just by being engaged enough to use the official forum, but I really think it's a problem for player retention to suddenly remove the easy mode for everyone.

There are absolutely gamers that enjoy the process of the story and fetch quests and exploration EXCLUSIVELY. FFXIV always had that until Dawntrail's demands. How many of us suddenly feel the pain of snapshotting unfairly hitting us despite what our eyes show us on screen. That's BAD.
