I'm starting to suspect something after the Forked Tower requiring consumables, and now the coming Pilgrim's Traverse floor 100 savage/ultimate boss will also require "offerings" to get in.
Depending of course how valuable those offerings are to get, or if it's just an afterthought will definitely decide if what I'm suspecting here is right or wrong. But I'll still bite, and say that it's possible that the devs noticed that Chaotic suffered greatly from parties immediately disbanding once a single person left after each attempt at progression, and decided to add "incentives" for people to stay in the duty if they invested something to get in in the first place.
So, perhaps this is sound, but I see at least two major issues rising with this type of system and we've already had a glimpse of it with Forked Tower entry.
1) Prog liars are going to inflame minds even more than they already are if people feel like they're "getting stuck with a prog liar". Calling it right now.
2) Why do the devs continue to introduce restrictions to even play the damn content? If they're right in identifying that they need to make content appeal to everyone in different ways, then why do they think that asking hardcore players willing to attempt that last boss duty will be happy to go back farming the deep dungeon for more of those offerings every time their instance runs out so that they can prog more? I'm not sure those players will enjoy farming this and this will just feel like a chore to them? Just let people queue for the damn content they actually enjoy, no?
( yes I do understand that those offerings will be sold on the marketboard )
