I think that Hildibrand - at the very least - proved that they're trying harder to create memorable quests and cutscenes.
Hildibrand gives me hope about 2.0's story!

If we can think of this so quickly, and believe me it's been brought up before, I would imagine the dev team has already taken it into consideration. Also they never said it would be the only way to level. In a previous interview somewhere they just said that grinding on enemy camps simply wouldn't be the most efficient way to level. Still possible and viable, just not 100% the most efficient.Okay, as a person who has played a couple of different MMOs, quest based leveling worked for them mainly because it was one storyline for the one class that you chose to level. However, we have an armory system, where you level multiple classes on one character and experience all the the story on the one character.
Anyone see the problem yet?
Lets say I'm a noob, just finished leveling my warrior 1-50 or where ever our new cap may end up being through quest. What if I decided to level Dragoon, would the quest restart on their own, or will I have used all my quest up for my second job.
I like questing to gain experience, but I'd just like some comments if this will be the case.
I am terrified of "quest-based leveling." To me, its the scariest and most worrisome phrase of all 2.0. I cannot stand quest-grinding. I much, much, rather monster grind in a party. In fact, I am worried in general of the idea of quests being primary means of exp over killing monsters.
Be crushed if 2.0 comes out with nice new servers, etc, and is just a FF version of every other WoW clone out there. Please god no.
I completely agree with you. Thankyou, I myself can not stand to level on quests, I dont want to level in an instanced dungeon either, I prefer open world grinding at a place I choose and when.I am terrified of "quest-based leveling." Open world leveling is so much more fun then quest grindingI detest quest leveling but I'll reserve judgement for when 2.0 is actually out
I think they'll find a good balance between the two.
repeatable quest will be the problem fixer. As they said at gamescom lv10 is when you'll start leves.Okay, as a person who has played a couple of different MMOs, quest based leveling worked for them mainly because it was one storyline for the one class that you chose to level. To many people with this phobia. I wonder how did people play final fantasy games in general. It is pretty much quest/adventuring oriented.I am terrified of "quest-based leveling." FFXIV is an MMO but lets not forget it is also an RPG.
Why not balance all 3...story driven quest...trash quest...and mob grinding...that way we can pick how we choose to lvl.
Mob grinding for xp will be a thing of the past. It's a good thing trust me, get over it. Bring on the quests.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^6
This, a thousand times this.
We currently have a working dual system, where leves and mob grinding are about equal.
Why shoot yourselves in the feet and revert to quests = best exp, like pre 1.18 changes?
And before another person says to me "But the quests will be uber FF story and in depth, all of them" Get real.
It's not logistically feasible for that many quests to contain that much content. It'll be "Bring me X bearbutts today pl0x xXxSephirothxXx"
Why not leave it as it is: Players choice of "Kill X/Find X/etc..." quests, and mob-grinding till we aren't nooby little adventurers anymore, we will be Gentlemen Hero Investigators! And then give us an epic story to experience.
Kinda early and i'm leaving for work so I don't remember which interview exactly, but I think it was the one Reinheart recently translated. Why shoot yourselves in the feet and revert to quests = best exp, like pre 1.18 changes?

But Yoshida mentioned that 'Leves will be there for people that don't like to read text', paraphrased. Wild guess, the quests you oh so fear will be levequests, and sidequests will have more content and story, and actually compleiting the Main/New GC/Beastman questlines will have sufficient XP reward to incentivize playing them at proper level for faster levelling.
