Yeah, the funniest part of this outrage is that there is nothing "conquistadory" in this armour. Everything except for the aiming gear and the tank/DRG helmets is pure fantasy. The helmet reminds me of 19th-century parade military uniforms, and the aiming gear is musketeer-inspired.

The level of stupidity and arrogance demonstrated in the closed thread is quite impressive, even for the Bluesky regulars.

I'd argue that the negative repercussions of the Spanish and Portuguese conquests of the Americas can be felt a lot more acutely today than those of the Roman conquest of the Gaul or the Mongol conquest of China. Look at the current status of many Indigenous groups in the Americas compared to that of the French and the Han Chinese.

Alright, so where was the outrage for the cowboy outfit? Where was the outrage for the native americans in North America? You can't just conveniently forget those. They suffered just as much, robbed of their land, rattled by diseases, massacred and put into reservations.
We can play this game all day long. You can't be selective in your outrage. The native americans in the north were much more recent in history too.

There are many large media franchises that channel aesthetics from dark times in history, including some which were recent enough to still have living survivors, yet society at large does not care.

Even having the time or energy to care about something like this speaks to an immense level of privilege, frankly.

The only one somewhat historical looking is the one which looks like a French musketeer from Three musketeers, so nothing to do with conquistadors (it’s not even the same century lol). The rest of the sets are just completely fantastical. So entire outrage is completely over nothing and I wouldn’t be suprised if it was started by a troll.

I was a bit confused about the comparison myself. We've already had a full Steiner outfit, but they look very much like another Steiner outfit with a cloth belt and cloth put over his breastplate. I mean Steiner had that kind of look himself anyway but IX outfits did sometimes have a bit of a Spanish flair.

If one were to search in google for "ffxiv gear conquistador" they would find lvl 38 "conquistador" pieces listed on Eorzia Collection. As in they are part of the name of the equipment. They didn't seem to mind that though.
