yes feedback not actually skill move like low blow. You're acting as if square enix isn't a business & we're not paying customers.
They are not a small indie company.
This is a forum where it is encouraged that we give feedback if we are unhappy with something.
You would have a point if people were actively going to Yoshi-P's house & yelling at him or something but that's not what is happening here.
on all seriousness yes you can be offended by it but called people racist and everything else will not help anyone at all.
that where my problem is overall you don't like it sure you can but having fullblown meltdown because of it do you think it will help?
When you're drawing from real-world inspirations, you need to be more thoughtful about it than this. Why did it have to be a conquistador set, if not to evoke the imagery of latin america & it's history?
They obviously know of the history and connection there, or else they wouldn't have made it in the first place. And if you're evoking that imagery, you're also evoking the real-world atrocities with it. The genocides, the rapes, the forcible faith-conversions. You're bringing all of that with it. Just tone deaf & strange.
It would be very easy for Square to alter the helmets of the conquistador-inspired outfits to get rid of these gross associations, and they should.
Consider this another voice horribly disappointed in the sets presented, for the aforementioned reasons. It just feels so tone-deaf from a team that allegedly is taking the history of the cultures they draw from into account. The time for a conquistador set was never, and certainly not at the peak of the "New World" expansion.
ok so where you oppressed? did you live any of those moment? because as you said this is history yes for sure but you didn't live those moments you can find it poor tasted for sure. But harmful? how? do please explain me as someone who didn't live such event?I am one of the many latinos upset by the newest gear presented for patch 7.3. The inspiration of Spanish and French armor used by people who perpetrated violent colonization against North and South American peoples is incredibly disappointing.
It is correct that it is not an exact 1:1 of either Spanish or French armor, and more a blend of the two, but the fact that this many people can look at it and immediately know where the inspiration comes from is enough.
As stated in one of the Encyclopaedia Eorzeas:
"Secondly, we can’t use anything that has real-world religious or cultural connotations. If we want to make something that draws from religious imagery, ethnic clothing, and so on, it needs to be significantly altered. FINAL FANTASY XIV is played all around the world, and just because something is allowed in Japan doesn’t necessarily mean it can be used in other countries, so we pay close attention to this."
Why, then, does this gear include a clear inspiration to armor used during a period of violent colonization towards those native to the Americas?
The FFXIV team had the wherewithal to be so immensely careful about the visual portrayal of the Garleans; knowing where to take influence without being offensive. Realizing which military uniforms to not use as a stepping point for the portrayal of an oppressive imperial force. How did we go from that careful nature to this blatant disregard for the history of the Americas?
This is incredibly disappointing to me, who has been playing this game since 1.0. I urge the dev team to rethink their inclusion of materials like this and to return to your own design mission statement.
We might be if any of the sets looked remotely like anything worn by a conquistador.I have no idea if this has blown up elsewhere, but I'd suggest you're vastly underestimating how problematic this gear set is to many people.
We are talking about one of the most disgraceful, extended episodes in European colonialism, the echoes of which continue to have a profound impact on millions of people.
So it would be totally okay to have a nazi-inspired outfit with the red arm band and all, just because it is something that happened in the past?
There is a line. You know this just as well as anyone else here does. You're being disingenuous. Just admit that you don't care about this particular group of people hurt by the imagery.
I'm not sure where you're getting that I'm having a melt down or that I'm calling people racist?yes feedback not actually skill move like low blow.
on all seriousness yes you can be offended by it but called people racist and everything else will not help anyone at all.
that where my problem is overall you don't like it sure you can but having fullblown meltdown because of it do you think it will help?
I've said that I think the gear is tasteless & insensitive & they should consider moving it to another expac or at least not in a dungeon that is in Tural.
Not sure if you're confusing me with someone else. If you want to wear the set, feel free. Thats your choice & I don't care what you do since I don't know you.
I'm not going to stop you, again, this is on the devs who designed the gear & not on the players. I'm not calling the devs racists either.
Again, they've said that they would be culturally sensitive & they've gone back on that.
Showing my support for the people affected by this. I'm not apart of the culture of people disturbed by this, however, even I was quite weirded out for one of the sets looked way too close to those conquistadors. The imagery on the Elezen female wearing the blue set looks vaguely or close to Christian symbols used by these soldiers. It would be in the best interests to rework that set, remove those symbols, or temporarily put dyeable gear from Yuweyawata Field Station instead until fixed.
To those saying "this isn't a big deal" or "omg why are so offended!!!11!", please consider being a little open-minded. I know the English forums has silly trolls, so I will not be responding to anyone quoting me. I am here to show support and help raise the voices of those affected. I hope this gets resolved or gets a response from Yoshi-P.
When you watch Star Wars, are you offended by the empire or the first order? First Order have a full nazi speech scene. So it would be totally okay to have a nazi-inspired outfit with the red arm band and all, just because it is something that happened in the past?
There is a line. You know this just as well as anyone else here does. You're being disingenuous. Just admit that you don't care about this particular group of people hurt by the imagery.
