New gearsets preview is a disappointment

Where did all these single post people come from? At first I thought it was some elaborate troll by one person talking to themselves. It just feels so troll like.

I'm posting to add my support to the Indigenous and Latam players who are upset by this set. This is in fact my first time posting here, and I was made aware of this thread on bluesky, but I've been told that the forums are one of the few places where SE actually reads feedback. I would hope my lack of posting history wouldn't automatically label my support as insincere.

I will say that I clocked this set as evoking conquistadors and the age of exploration before I logged on and read anything. It's clearly not a 1:1 because SE actively avoids historical accuracy when designing armors, but it's nevertheless a disappointing move on their part, especially given how Tural has basically been abandoned to focus on Alexandria. As a game that already borrows from a vaguely defined western European aesthetic for most of their armors, they could've put this set anywhere else. Even as a PVP set; it's not the designs themselves so much as it's a horrible time and place.

I don't think that SE will change the armor. The New World set has been in the game for what, ten years, and the only thing resembling a response to that was Yoshida mumbling about how they "tried harder" with Dawntrail at fanfest. I'm going to post this anyway, because I've seen a lot of frustration from players who had so much hope in DT and I think it's important to uplift those voices, no matter how little of that I'm actually doing, and for SE to see both. And this comment took less than five minutes of my lunch break to write up, it actually doesn't take a lot of effort and hand-wringing to agree with someone.

I'm really disappointed in the new armor sets. It shows a callous disregard for the initial themes set up by Dawntrail and is wholly offensive towards the cultures that the various people of Tural are meant to represent.

I was really excited that Dawntrail delved into indigenous American cultures. It has even opened me up to and in fact caused me to search out more information on the cultures that the game is supposed to represent. And this set of armor is really painful to see. Because to some extent, a lot of Dawntrail was trying to see these cultures celebrated and undecimated by the horrors of colonialism and what white Europeans did to them. There's- a lot to say here. About how it could have been done better or certain parts should have been included. But at first it initially felt that- Hey, the FFXIV is trying and they're not being overtly disrespectful. I can appreciate that.

But adding the real life clothing of the genociders who actively wiped culture, history, people, off the face of the earth is not respectful. It almost feels like an endorsement of the history that occurred. It feels blind. It feels like the design team saying "Well you can't have indigenous Americans without their colonizers so might as well add them."

Its. Tiring. Its disappointing. Especially after time and time again I hold out hope of one of these patches exploring North American indigenous people further. The various people that the Shetona are meant to represent. Some kind of way for Erenville and the others who were ripped away from their homes and cultures to keep it going. To show us, the players, pur warriors of light, that their culture was important and wonderul. And instead we- get this. Just a confirmation that all of this wasn't meant in respect or love. That it was just set dressing to make an expansion unique.

Please do not add these sets to the game, Square Enix. Its bad enough they're being considered to add, it would be worse to actually do so.

Like, all you need is the hat and the breastplate. The fact the boots are a slightly different length is missing the point.

A cavalier hat is generic European. It's not a signifier of "conquistador" in the same way that a morion helmet is.

I think the set looks great. If people don't like it for whatever reason, I'm sorry for your feelings I guess? No one is forcing you to wear it and tools now exist in game to make people invisible to you so you can simply make the problem disappear.

Also, we already have a cavalier hat in game, so I don't get how a cavalier hat can be considered a signifier of "conquistador" that you've said.
