I'll never understand the Community thing. People poke fun or wail at WoWs community due to memes or streamers but in game itself, I rarely if ever saw the ragers and such. People usually either just stay silent and leave if things are going badly, or try to offer advice. I've only heard of terrible experiences a handful of times myself. Meanwhile, I've seen leveling dungeons here devolve into insulting bashfests because the tank ran ahead while the sprout healer was still getting their bearings, died, and decides everything needs yelled at. I've had far more consistently bad experiences here than I've ever seen in WoW. And WoW devs are even taking steps this xpac to curb some of the more toxic behaviors, like actual punishments for ditching M+ keys. So they're -actively- trying to help. I haven't seen a thing like that here yet, aside from a bad attempt to fix the blocklist that backfired.

I will absolutely say WoWs story is not great. Never has been. It's always been pretty generic. But the gameplay content lately has been top notch. Something I've been struggling to see a positive of since I resubbed to FFXIV to see what I've missed.

I've tried WoW twice. Once in Dragonflight and once in The War Within. Couldn't get past levelling (70 to 80 I think?) in TWW. The game might not be for me but I want to give it one more shot in the near future. How should I approach it? Should I create a new character from scratch? Use the ones from DF or TWW?

I don't think I will stop playing FFXIV completely but it might nice to have another MMORPG when I get the itch for it while taking a break from FFXIV.

M+ is definitely a hazard zone, similar to what you find in rated PvP matches of any team game - You get the wild west of competence and toxicity up until a certain rating, then the folks there are usually more locked in and capable.
And people get *really* ugly with each other at times because they risk getting their key bricked, so it's quite competitive even for a PvE run.

Another downside is that people quickly drop the whole raid when a certain boss didn't drop the thing they wanted, even though there would be up to another 2 bosses coming up (LFR raids are reduced to 2-3 bosses per 'Wing/Section' so it's more bite-sized).
There was a attempt to have the similar option like XIV by either queuing for a fresh raid, or op-in to join a in-progress one. And the result with the above issue is that LFR raids were basically dead once a few left and couldn't be filled anymore once certain bosses were already killed.

So for now you get in a LFR queue and it's a wild guess if you get lucky and get the whole 'wing' for you to defeat, or you are stuck on the last boss of the 3-boss one.

As long as you have some attachment to your character, may as well stick with that one. If not, a fresh start rolls the dice on a better connection.

No real leveling changes since DF, though, and certainly nothing to make the leveling better outside of picking a class more enjoyable to you, since you were already leveling in the most recent expansion.

I see, thanks! I'll see how I feel about my characters when I try it next time.

I once saw someone get kicked out of Wailing Caverns (a level 17 dungeon) for "too low DPS." Another time a buddy of mine got kicked out of a Naxx run in Wrath for being low on the healing meters. He was a Disc Priest. I saw a video a while back of a guy trying to get literally any other player to talk to him and the only person who ever responded was someone just telling him to "stfu."

You may have not personally run into it much but WoW's community absolutely sucks.

    1. But you can only list for 2 days max and then have to repost everything that didn't sell. Paying a fee every time, too.
    2. You mean Mount Equipment? Not yet relevant in 14 for anything using standard mounts (Rival Wings and moon mech FATEs don't count)
    3. True
    4. Subjective. Plus don't forget Pathfinder. If you want normal flying in an expansion you more or less have to do ALL the "side" quests because Loremaster ... FF you only have to do a few per zone.
    5. Only in certain xpacs for certain main storyline quests, I think FF's still got the lead here
    6. Generally true, FF needs to use cutscenes for most of that, yeah
    7. Jobs only have one specialization in FF though (unless you mean the equivalent would be being able to have the queue pop on any eligible job, but downside is I could easily see FF forcing you to take whatever job pops instead of you getting to decide what to run as ...)
    8. Dungeons you can get vote kicked in while doing the quests so you not only fail to complete them, but in WoW you get the ditcher penalty for being VK'd as a rules patch to compensate for their lack of GMs, too!
    9. True
    10. Mostly true (FF has thrown a few bones, like the chests in OC)
    11. Needs more clarification?
    12. Ehhh not really, for all the complaints about Level Sync at least it functions reasonably consistently, while WoW level scaling is bizarro for anything with more than a narrow bracket AND gear scaledown is often even crazier
    13. In terms of model unlocks yes. But no dye kinda sucks. Want a different color? Hope there's an actual piece with it (and it isn't some kind of tera rare world drop or something you have to farm Mythic Raid for ...)
    14. Side effect of actually needing real alts to play different classes in WoW
    15. Mostly see #14 (also a stealth predatory monetization when you realize the community is not going to wait for you and you'll have to actually use boosts if you want alts to be leveled up for raid fast enough. And it's RNG whether you can get good enough gear fast enough on a character too ...)
    16. Yeah that's a nice bone thrown there, agreed
    17. XIV doesn't really have much/any of the equivalent type of quest in the first place (unless you count the "run an item in a limited time" society quests but you can't mount for those anyway)
    18. Most WoW players hate underwater combat OTOH (I loved Vashj'ir but I'm an exception lol), and meanwhile airborne combat is still impossible so that just introduces a hazard, not a real battle mode ...

Okay I've had a lot to say about FF14, and most of it less than positive in DT, but regarding WoW...

1). Okay yeah, I'll give you this one. This limit always felt kind of silly.

    2) I thought that was limited to the Dragonflight Dragon the way the Company Chocobo was to us--are there more, now? Because most mounts in WoW that I remember didn't have such options.

    3) Politely but emphatically disagree with this one. There was a time, when WoW was more popular, where you went to an expac's capital city at your own risk. Hell, in Shadowlands trying to do so at the wrong time could literally kill your character.

    4) I can't comment much here, as I'm not much of a side quester.

    5) Yeah....Yeah. I know it wasn't always this way in WoW, but the fact that FF14 hasn't managed this is pretty depressing. For a story driven game, the presentation is lacking.

I will say, in terms of presentation, though, that WoW definitely struggles with its in game cutscenes. The models just aren't expressive enough.

    6) 14 did this, too, but I feel like EW changed a lot of that.

    7) Counterpoint: you have multiple specializations, but if you want to play another job, you're starting all over again. It's funny you mention this because when people came to 14, the job system was considered one of the biggest points of praise for 14's QoL.

    8) I think that changes later in WoW's life cycle. If you like that in earlier content, do I have some bad news for you...

    9) On one hand I agree, on the other hand I get why, given how a lot of NPC dialog goes into in game cutscene.

    10) THIS on the other hand I completely agree.

    11) See 8.

    12) Ehhh....I'll agree to disagree here. I think the bigger issue with FF14's level sync is how lackluster older jobs feel with certain mechanics removed that were present at the time.

    13) Unless this changed recently I really hated running to the transmog vendor to change outfits. Okay--there's a transmog mount, but having to mount up to do that felt like a QoL inconvenience, too.

Better storage in WoW though? Absolutely.

    14) Again, see 8.

    15) Yeah those are definitely nice.

    16) I won't argue this, either. Would be nice.

    17) As opposed to the limited time item carrying quests in SHB and EW, for example? Ironically I liked it in SHB when there were obstacles. Removing those to just make it busywork in EW on was *awful*.

    18) Flying still absolutely breaks aggro in WoW, though. They're not gonna catch you 99 times out of 100.

timewalking is awful, ff14's new game plus is way better for story redoing.

    Deal?
    Okay
I've played wow for 20 years
    I've played ff14 for 7
FF14 has gotten old faster than wow because wow has evolved and changed its systems constantly
Sorry man. square needs to do something innovative or risk this games stagnate slow death

I enjoy both but i definitely play wow more these days since they fixed their issues after shadowlands, the game is doing amazing and i wish square enix would try harder.
