Finally tried WoW

I quit WoW years ago, and I will rather stop playing MMOs than to return to that sh*tshow. That's just me, of course.

i just went to the general discussion forums and I also follow the WoW subreddit and, yeah there may be one or two compaint threads and its not all rainbows, but it really isn't anything compared to here or the ffxiv discussion subreddits. It's almost as if you are exaggerating because "WoW bad, FFXIV good" or something.

And you said it yourself, you left years ago. DF and TWW put WoW in a much better place than it was.

But again, gotta have that duality of "Play other games!" and "stop having fun playing other games!" lol

If you want to play a real MMO I'd suggest Turtle WoW private servers. You wont have to pay anything. The leveling process itself is a journey and every zone has its own story in quests that might take you to other zones, dungeons and back.
Every class has its own unique way of approaching a fight and can share utility with groups and friends.

The open world actually matters and fights are dangerous if you pull too many mobs etc. Gear matters and upgrading it will make you stronger in open world, dungeons and raids. No MSQ but what has 14's MSQ really developed in Dawntrail? The Scions might as well have been signposts and Wuk Lamat a pamphlet for "papas peace" she is not a character. Maybe 8.0 will (copium, but possible) focus more on character-focused writing instead of "look at the flashy lights and spectacle"

That's another problem the usual repetitive crap i overlooked prior to this expansion as I loved the story, but this expansion I really can't get into the story and for the first time i'm skipping bits.

Forum doomers exist everywhere and you cant please everyone but ill counter with this. Story this last patch was shit on the ptr and it was flamed. What did blizzard do? Fixed it for live release and its actually pretty good. m+ was absolute garbage in season 1 that required you to have the gear from the content it dropped to be able to reliably clear. What did blizzard do? They rescaled the entirety of m+ for season 2 and its actually really well received with their announcements for season 3 met with the excitement of the majority of the community. The only people really complaining now are the ones upset the vault drop mythic piece is no longer tied to one of the hardest scales so their parses are more competitive. Another one you didn't mention is healers. Healers in season 1 were underpowered for the incoming damage and the majority of the player base was upset. So this season healers feel good and can reliably heal content. Now in contrast what did xiv do when asked about the forked tower debacle? Bandaids and its too expensive to fix. While wows not perfect and it has its issue i'd argue the grass is greener over there on merit of tangible evidence of improvement. Going from shadowlands where we didn't have talent trees or class expression, character bound grinds, and content designed only to keep players logged in as long as possible to where we are now is an amazing improvement.

Oh, maybe the grass is indeed greener over there. I have no idea what's currently going on, I just check their forums every now and then, for the laughs only. Personally I don't believe the praise, over the years I've seen so much of their monkey paw solutions, I'm just sick and tired of nuBlizz.
But guess what? Even if I don't believe that anything changed over there, I sincerely hope it does - and that they light a huge fire under SE's lazy bottom. Just like SE did, when nuBlizz followed a bad expansion (BfA) with a catastrophically bad one (SL).

While I don't consider your list to even touch upon the quality of life FFXIV needs, you are right that SE doesn't focus on Quality of Life hardly at all.

There is hardly any development on anything that isn't the upcoming patch or expansion. They mostly leave old features, systems and patches to wither. Sometimes they fix about 5 quality of life issues that people have complained about for 10 years, but it's not even close to enough. And sometimes improvements aren't good enough either.

Even if feedback is taken into account for new systems, it's not necessarily for past systems, thus the majority of systems in the game continue to have the problems that were addressed in later expansions.

Taking inspiration from other games is fine. Some suggested QoL improvements sound good. But many people here overlook that FFXIV *does* improve QoL over time - wasn't so long ago you had to stand still to mount or select city teleport locations from a list rather than a map. People forget these are QoL features almost immediately and then act like a neglected stepchild.

As for WoW vs FFXIV, you don't have to look far on the WoW forums to see posts like "this game is dying", "cancelled my sub", "FFXIV does things better" etc.
