Broooooooo dawnbreaker is so fire. Its also got skill expression when you drop off the airship into the city to kill the lieutenants and general. The lieutenants arent mandatory and killing them only reduces the damage the general does to you. So you can skip them based on your parties skill and gear. Also worth noting the rp in the final boss. He flees at about 50% hp and the dungeon ends but he's also a boss in the season 1 raid that starts at 50% where you left him. The raid boss also uses stronger modifications of the mechanics in the dungeon too along with a couple others. Great world building.

You feel like an adventurer in the open world again
This makes me feel like you didn't actually play the game.

If you have that much dis-taste for FFXIV, maybe it's just time for you to move on.

FFXIV does a lot far superior to that of WoW. I would know, I played WoW for over 15 years. WoW is far from what is used to be. WoW today is nothing like the game that most people fell in love with. If they would have done what FFXIV has done (Update the game, make it feel current, but leave the base recipe alone) I'd most likely still be playing WoW today.

If you look at classic vs retail. The two games share the same name, but they are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT games. When WoW completely redesigned itself with WoD, they went from having 10 million+ active subs to 5 million active subs in less than 6 months. This drop is sub count is literally what made Blizzard stop report sub counts to the public.

Don't get me wrong, FFXIV is far from perfect. The devs need to stop adding new systems and go back and update systems they have in place. It seems like the devs create a system, just to never touch it again. Many of the FFXIV systems are the same from 10 years ago with little to no updates. This is what they need to do. They don't need to completely overhaul the game to make it completely something different.

LMAO the open world is basically a waiting room and the majority would agree..

When 14 was remade Yoshida asked the devs to go play WoW and other mmos they need to do this again...

    Funny story...

So did I! After years of having zero interest, I figured I would give it a shot. I'm also actually enjoying it, to the point that I paid for a year long subscription. There are things about wow that I'm not enjoying, but when I'm grinding I actually feel like I'm accomplishing something. I've also found a guild that has been very helpful.

While some of the points you mention would be nice to have in FF14, it mainly signals that you are extremely burned out of FF14, which is okay. It's nice to go and play other games. Many games have features that I would like to see in FF14, but I also know they might not be easily implemented or fit well with the game.

It's natural that after playing for so long, you see all of the imperfections and many things that can be improved. I am sure that you will see the same things after you have played WoW for long enough. Each game has its shortcomings, and none is perfect.

It would be nice, however, for SE to look around and improve/adopt/innovate in the game.

While I do not agree with many of the complaints made in the forums, ultimately, they do push SE to stop their current slop and feel pressured again to step up their game.

Really tired of hearing the “you’re just burned out” take. Sometimes the game has just become stale—it doesn’t mean I’m burned out. It means I’ve noticed the systems aren’t evolving, and the fun is getting buried under dated design choices.

let's try something okay? I see you have joined in 2013 and while it doesn't mean you have been playing non stop for 12 years.. how about this. Play WoW for 5 and then come back and tell me all about those flaws and how the game is dying and how much better X game is.

    Deal?

I played FFXI for 14 years—the only reason I quit was because the game stopped being fun. If XIV added something genuinely new, interesting, unique, or actually fixed core issues, I’d choose it over WoW in a heartbeat. How does that equal burnout? That’s not fatigue—it’s disappointment. In WoW, every corner I turn there’s something new—something different to do. It constantly feels like there’s variety, like the world is alive and waiting, instead of just sending me down the same hallway in a slightly different skin.

So if I take a break for five years and come back—XIV is going to be completely different? Doubt it. It'll have more story, maybe a new job or two, but the core systems, the UI, the way the world functions? Probably still the same. That’s not growth—it’s just more of the same.

And just to be clear—yes, aside from a single six-month break due to personal reasons at the end of A Realm Reborn, I’ve been subbed continuously. I’ve stuck with XIV through it all, so this isn’t coming from someone who dipped in and out. I’ve given it the time—it just hasn’t evolved with it.

The duality of "play other games" and "stop having fun playing other games" in this community is amazing.

Played WoW since Vanilla and XIV since 1.0 Beta.

The things he noted as being handled better on WoW are still handled better on WoW and would improve XIV is better handled here. It doesn't take burnout to find more sensible choices regarding UI, QoL, progression, fleshing out an open world, etc., more appealing than less sensible ones.
