    I just want a FF11 modern game.

XIV has been a good experience since 2.0, but I think I'm done with "casual" experiences. Every game on the market today is just one casual experience after another. I was around during the 90s mmo era, and games back then treated you far differently, and had content you can tell was poured passion into by the devs. Even Everquest lasted for so long before eventually better mmos came about. But games like XIV has made me tired. Or rather, bored. It feels more like a themepark than a world you actually live in. And our characters have the illusion of build customization but no actual customization. It's all cosmetics.

I don't think Square can ever give an experience like FF11 again in the modern era, but I'm tired of themepark mmos. I want to go back to the mmos that didn't hold your hand a lot of the times. Not talking secretive stuff, but simply the feel of difficulty and yet being able to mold yourself into the world and make an identity out of it. Whether that's the build you have or the identity in the world itself. We don't need everything from that era.

If I was to be honest, I fully believe taking the concept of Eureka and making an entire game around it would be far more intuitive. It feels far more like a mmo of the past than anything in the game.

    What are your thoughts?

    You can still play 11.
But modern hardcore MMOs do not last. If they made one the only ones still playing would be probably less than the people still playing 11.

Just come back to FFXI, the water is great over here. Monthly updates, devs and leadership who listen, known how to do their jobs and actually care about their game, content revamps to keep it current (limbus and beseiged are currently being redone), tons of official good qol updates and fans have made some great graphics mods that make the game beautiful. The compllete opposite of FFXIV in so many regards. Which is what happens when you have quality leadership. Fujito is very competent and really cares and it shows.

My one problem is that the interface and controls should be more modern. Unless there's mods for that, too.

There are addons that can create hotbars or something very similar to XIV's crosshotbar but the original controls are honestly fine once you get used to them. They just feel unintuitive at first to people who are coming from modern games because the game was created long before these things were standardised. It's like using a website that was built before UX conventions like hamburger and ... menus had been developed. Everything works, it just isn't designed the way that you're familiar with.

I found out after 15 years of playing that there are indeed kb shortcuts that let you bypass a lot of the menus and apparently compact keyboard setting lets you assign keybinds too. Which is helpful. If you are looking for a hotbar tho, your out of luck. Although you can always use the macro tabs for a close experience

There are tHotbar and tCrossbar for hotbars. I don't use them though. In game macros and keybinds are fine.

Good to know. I have so much muscle memory when it comes to FFXI that allow me to zip through menus and what not so quickly I seldom use shortcuts too.

And most importantly, actually does tangible action instead of standing in front of an unnecessary stream talking non-stop for hours and then telling the playerbase on more than one occasion: "Please look forward to it" despite giving absolutely zero details on what they should be looking forward to.

Also am glad the Anime expo 2025 organizers share my sentiment and made it clear to him to wrap up the long talk in two minutes instead of dragging it for hours.
