Jokes are fine. I've done jokes for years (runs in my family that we become known for them among those we know). But got to consider if there is any way in which it could be seen as offensive - most people won't see it as that, but if it's even possible for someone to, it's not worth saying it in the game. It's safest not to make a player the target of said joke in case they take it the wrong way. Targeting jokes at NPCs or the environment makes it impossible for anyone to feel attacked since those things can't take offense.

It's also best to avoid things that could be considered politics or isms. I know it means some jokes get scrapped, but almost everywhere has rules like this, technically even discord although you'll likely be fine if it's a small friend server that you own.

I'm the type to come up with jokes instantly in response, but just got to delay a second or two and consider if it's polite or targeting a player or could fall under anything I mentioned by some interpretations.

The cut scenes in Prae are an excellent opportunity to chat with the team and be funny.

In Frontline, off-topic text appearing in the chatbox is incredibly disruptive because people are waiting for pinch warnings and call-outs. And as mentioned above, if you're making an honest attempt to help the team, you don't have time for a stand-up routine.
