Disgustingly greedy pricing on latest cash shop items

i understand that people wanted to be able to purchase the items of a set separately, i really do. but $18 EACH for a pair of shirt and pants where the difference is only really in the pants style, and then a $6 set of a hat and gloves where hrothgar and viera STILL cant wear the hat...?

that is absolutely, disturbingly greedy. to get the whole set, which would usually be that $18 we're used to seeing, it would be $42 usd. for a set that doesnt even include shoes.

i am disgusted, i am horrified by the level of greed, the continued pure laziness with the lack of compatibility for hrothgar and viera, and im tired of feeling like im being taken advantage of for a digital product. please, i am begging you, do better, this is ridiculous.

I wrote a similar thread in the german forums and i agree 100% with you!

I generally don’t mind supporting the game through glamour purchases in addition to my sub, but considering what Yoshi-P said in the last Live Letter, that certain content couldn’t be developed due to lack of resources or budget, this just feels like a slap in the face. The game has several areas in need of improvement, yet players keep getting squeezed for more money. But hey, after all these years, at least Hrothgar can finally wear hats...

And the solution is so obvious: either sell the full set for €17.50 including hat and gloves, or split everything up properly and price each item at around €4.50.

This new "optional item" set's monetisation is not only egregious and insulting to the current playerbase.
It sadly only comes as the latest iteration in a long line of extremely disrespectful, consumer-hostile practices by the people managing the Online Store.

Full price of 18 USD / 15 GBP / 13.5 EUR for two VARIANTS of the SAME top and the SAME bottoms ??? ( open back top / cropped slops vs closed back top / long trousers )
Gloves and head sold separately at half the price of the "full" bundle and Viera/Hrothgar CAN'T even wear the hat ??

The set labeled "cropped slops" gives you (for 18 usd)
- open-back variant of the top
- cropped slops variant of the bottoms

The set labeled "trousers" gives you (for another 18 usd)
- the same top as the first, but with a closed back
- the same pants as the first, but long trousers instead

Meaning there is no way to mix & match variants unless paying 2 times the full price already. And if that were not disrespectful enough... the set's gloves + hat are sold separately, at half-price (6 usd) and Viera/Hrothgar can't even wear the hat, meaning it's really 6 usd just for a pair of gloves.

UPDATE : As if this all somehow were NOT disrespectful enough, here comes the problem of the GLAMOUR DRESSER.
Attempting to store one of the item sets inside the GD at this point in time REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE THE FULL SET (hat+top+gloves+pants+boots) for EACH variant.
Meaning you have to buy the gloves and hat TWICE if you want to store both variant sets.

For maths : 18 usd x 2 for the top/bottom variants PLUS 6 usd x 2 for the gloves/hat means you'd be paying 48 USD total for the actual complete set, unless you like simply being barred from storing items sanely in the glamour dresser I guess !

In comparison, the recently released Woodland Warden and Street Attire sets were a sizeable price but for a FULL set that came with BOTH variant parts when there were any (2 different bottoms for Woodland, 2 different top & bottom for Street)....
An inferior release, players should not buy this nor gift it. Not only that, this also highlights the cruel limitations of the glamour dresser at this time because you cannot store a full set as is with all its variant items, you must make separate copies of the set for each variant (Summer items and Island Sanctuary item sets are extremely are guilty of this). It's unacceptable no matter how you frame it.

To add insult to injury, this optional item's release comes literal DAYS after the latest Producer Liveletter where the producer Naoki Yoshida was talking at length about how content had to be cut in Dawntrail's development because of budgeting issues, which was already a hard thing to hear in many viewers. A lot of the talks was also about "regaining the players' trust" and invited the players to give Square Enix the chance to prove they have good things in store for us all.

This is not "good things". This is the opposite of good things. It's extremely backwards, and only highlights Square Enix's continued blatant contempt for the playerbase of FF14 as well as betraying our trust, once again.

Whichever side of SQX is responsible for these decisions should be ashamed of themselves and MUST do better than this moving forward.

Not entirely surprising considering the drop in player numbers and the completely insouciant and tone-deaf response to this from SE.

Disgusting? Sure.

The reality is they know a certain amount of the playerbase will buy it without hesitation. The ones that make sure the servers are still running..

As a very casual player, through out the years i've noticed various players are consistently wearing the latest Mogshop's rags.

once again saying se should Just let you get portions of an outfit if you don't want the whole thing. hell give a slight discount if you buy the whole set together

take the street attire for example. I actively don't want the hat. don't see myself having a use for the pants. the long top and shoes I could give or take, kinda cute kinda whatever. honestly I forgot until I looked at the shop page that it had shoes. so I would be spending $22 for essentially the gloves and crop jacket. so I didn't. but I would've probably spent that money if I could get them as separate pieces for less than $22

Ridiculous

Agreed, the pricing is ridiculous. If anything, it should be two sets, one for $20USD for the entire set minus hat, then $2USD for the hat. The variations aren't even that noticeable. Separating out the hat is great, but combining it with the gloves removes the whole point of splitting it for non-hat folk.

The Good:
Separate the Hat (not gloves) out from the rest of the outfit. This way until you adapt all headwear for Hrothgar and Viera players, you are not charging them for an item they may not be able to use for years.

The Bad:
The gloves need to remain with the actual core outfit. These outfits are similar enough that it should not have been two separate outfits... at least not at the price point presented to the players. It comes off as predatory business practices and is not a good look.

You know players are going to buy these outfits, regardless of their complaints and even if they should not be paying as much as you are making them. You will still make your money even if you present us with fair pricing, especially in the wake of the financial troubles many people face today. If you want to retain a loyal player base, please do better.

TL;DR: Split the hat only out, charge much less for everybody. Don't put two nearly-identical sets out for effectively the same price and then gouge said price out the nose. Also... outfits costing more than my monthly sub isn't the vibe in 2025.

My feedback:
The pricing here, combined with the knowledge shared with us in the PLL that certain things in XIV's gameplay sphere are not at their best because of budget restrictions, means this is a No Thank You from me even though I love the 'fit.

I think we all hope at least a small portion of (formerly known as) MogStation purchases go back in to helping XIV be the best it can be, but I doubt I'm alone in thinking this doesn't seem to be the case at all.

The pricing on this is actively insulting.

Like, literally the last $18 set that came out was the six-piece Azeyma set, a complete set for everyone - All six pieces work on every single race. Only the hair was sold separately, and said hair worked for every race as well.

These two sets are three pieces each. They should be $12, max, and even that is questionable because they frankly are not very good sets. They also aren't very different from each other frankly.

Splitting the accessories out and not reducing the main price is scummy price-gouging. And doesn't help viera/hroth players anyway, because if they want the gloves, they... Still have to pay 6 bucks. For just gloves. And a hat they can't wear.

Sorry when we've had stuff like the Azeyma set or Woodland Warden or even the slightly more expensive Streetwear set, this is just insulting and greedy.
