You are not synced in the following content:
- Max level trials.
- Max level extremes.
- Max level alliance raids.
- Max level normal raids.
- Max level savage raids.
- The latest expert dungeon or two.
- Max level maps outside, often inside too.
- Last zone's FATEs.
- Hunts.
You are only synced, mostly, if your hobby is doing roulettes that throw you into sub-100 content. If you avoid that, your gear mostly does affect how much you destroy enemies.
Granted, a lot of people see old roulettes as their main content, but if you're really burned out by the concept, you can mostly solve it by avoiding sub-100 roulettes.
BIS is there so you can clear savage faster
Midcore is when you take a look at an Ultimate, nod along sagely to a guide and decide to do it when you get 12 months of uninterrupted vacation, which is to say: never.
Gear would be a lot more useful if the main zones of the game had content in them. XIV really needs some kind of core gameplay in the open-world to tie the various content islands together.
Bring back 6.0 Dragoon. I want my job back.
One other thing is that gear has a max for each stat, so for example, item level 100 may have a max stat of 10 for secondary stats like crit and determination, but the stats of ilvl 100 gear may only have 7 det and 10 dh. If you bring gear in that sync down that has higher than those max stats, BOTH stats will be max (10dh/10det). So even in lower level content you DO get an advantageYou are not synced in the following content:

Gear in this game is pointless, so are the stats, it's just another system they blindly copied over from WoW without really understanding the whys. Meh, sounds like japanese doing what japanese do best.
your bait is so low quality its boring
This is the best Answer, it may be pointless for older Content but even then there is a huge benefits of Gear with the way how Sync works in FFXIV, but overall you get the best Gear to farm the up 2 date content faster and gives you the option for more fails without worrying about the dps checkYou are not synced in the following content:

I for one solo 8 player treasure maps and dungeons. And man, do I feel gear upgrades.
When grouping with others, your own equip may or may not make a difference:But when soloing group content, the only factor is you. And every change is notable.
- get into a trial with bad equip but 7 other players in BIS, and you will clear it fast;
- later get into the same trial with BIS equip but 7 other players in mere rags, and it will take ages to clear.
