FFXIV_dx11.exe "an unexpected error"

I've seen a few other forum posts on this topic, but I have not seen one with a conclusive solution.

I am getting a ffxiv_dx11.exe error at random times. It could be in the middle of an empty Amh Araeng, or in the middle of a boss fight. There does not seem to be a pattern to it. I've notice that the error has a weird date and time as show below. It is 10 days and 6 hours behind.

I have tried the following:
Uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
Factory Resetting the computer with only FFXIV installed.
Checking CPU, GPU, Sound Card, and Windows drivers/updates - all current.
Running the games with a 'clean startup' - disabling all but Microsoft's services on startup
Setting my maximum FPS at 60 in NVIDIA control panel and in game.
Making sure my CPU and GPU are not overclocking.
Lowering graphical settings.
There may be a few other things, but I have forgotten everything.


I am aware than the i9-14900K processor have instability issues. I read that this wasn't as common on my i9-14900HX (The laptop processor model). I did download an intel tool that stress tests these processors, and it passed every test.

Greetings Adventurer! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated
- Switch between full screen and borderless windowed modes.
- Please try adjusting/lowering the resolution.
- Please try running the game as an administrator

Disable Full Screen Optimizations. To disable this, please find the "ffxiv_dx11.exe" and right click it and select properties. Then under the compatibility tab there will be a check box labeled "Disable Full Screen Optimizations". Check it and click apply.

** Open the Nvidia Control Panel and go to 'Manage 3D Settings'. From here, select 'Program Settings' and select Final Fantasy XIV. You should see an option to select the GPU. Make sure it's set to your dedicated graphics card (it may be set to 'Auto' by default)
