Plus, on the west coast of Tural you have to contend with the Fathomless Sea, which is a series of giant cracks in the planet with oceanic waterfalls covering an area that seems to be just as big as Tural itself. I don't think it's very realistic to expect sailors coming to Tural from Othard with those things in mind.

But they might not have necessarily settled there via mundane methods. The 5th Astral Era had airships and even a flying city. The 3rd Astral Era had spaceships and space stations as well as airships. But we'll probably never know for sure until EE4.
Maybe the world looked different in eras prior to the 4th calamity of earth occurred, or as you said they access to a means of travel that made it feasible. Though unless expanded further by official sources, I do admit its all just conjecture. As I personally wouldn't have even gone down that rabbit hole if it weren't for noticing the oddness with hrothgar and viera in their living locations. I personally doubt we will get more information than what we have on the 4th era.

It’s hard to extrapolate old geographic trends because they are really vague and unclear about how far the umbral calamities extend, why they centre on eorzea (as in why the ascians always design the calamity to have its source ground zero in eorzea) and how other regions define the passing of time if the calamities are basically restricted to eorzea

Like off the top of my head the 4th umbral calamity and the 6th umbral calamity ONLY affected eorzea (the earthquake that ended allag was centred on the crystal tower and the flood that washed away the magii cities didn’t affect the inner sea)

Like does tural or hingashi even acknowledge the calamity system of dates

We know the Miqo'te tribes re-migrated to Eorzea during the age of Endless Frost, so there could have been similar movement between Tural and Othard during that time.

There is some explicitly mentioned evidence at least the 4th calamity was worldwide. Zadnor is in the state it’s in with floating rocks and such because that calamity and it’s on the near opposite end of the world. The earthquake also directly affected Bozja itself, requiring a shrine maiden to be made queen to protect the country and setting the stage for the Save the Queen questline thousands of years later.

And there’s a single throwaway word that suggests the 6th Umbral Calamity could have affected as far as Rabanastre or is at least present in the consciousness of Ilsabardians because the city is described as “antediluvian” by Ramza (a Garlean) which means it’s older than the flood.

The issue though is lack of written records and thousands of years of time passed in lands that aren’t the focus of the story and where our characters are from. There’s some other events around the world that could be linked to calamities, but no direct connection is explicitly stated.

Like Hingashi having a succession crisis right around the beginning of the 6th Astral Era, or the fact that the oldest civilization present in Tural was the Yok Huy Empire which was only about 1000 years ago. Even Mamook is built on Yok Huy ruins. The Raen also happened to migrate out to the Near East and then Thavnair at the dawn of the 6th Astral Era. All that put together could suggest worldwide upheaval from a calamity.
