Reviving this because we still haven't heard anything about it. It's a great way to promote class/job diversity in content.

Along with damage types, incapacitation can create room in content for classes/jobs that may be seen as "non-optimal". Also as we've seen even in 1.0 it actually allows some jobs to be viable that otherwise wouldn't be.

Take the Chimera and Monk for instance. Normally you wouldn't put melee anywhere behind the Chimera because of the poison tail. However through incapacitation Monks can remove the tail and are now much more viable in this fight. Were that not the case I fear most would deem the situation too dangerous for Monks.

Through effecting the move sets and drop rates of enemies, incapacitation is really a great system and I definitely hope we see more of it in 2.0.

More visual feedback for incaps would be nice in ARR.

Monster Hunter should be the template for this.

Yeah! Like, incapping Chimera's tail would physically break it off. It's really easy to miss the message in the chat log. Maybe the heads of Chim go limp or something.

Maybe even do something like White Knight Chronicles, when you incap a part, you get a drop in addition to what drops after it dies.

the animation is not complete. in monster hunter when you lop a monsters tail off, it flies up INTO the air and lands *thud* on the battlefield. when you incap chimera's tail it just disappears.

Right, I would agree with you there. It just pops off and disappears. I would love to see more visual incapacitation effects on enemies. The devs could really get creative with it. It doesn't even necessarily need to be something being removed, it could just be damaged.

It should definitely be done with a purpose though, such as drops or changing move sets. We've seen both in 1.0, hopefully that'll continue in 2.0.

I wonder if the developers have actually considered expanding on this particular point...
This is one of the biggest ways with which I can see them improving the system.

In any case, I think the incap system will be around in 2.0, especially with the number of large monsters roaming Eorzea in ARR.

Yea, I think this would be really cool. Especially if it cancels skills that they are preparing for the incapacitation animation. Then you could time the incapacitation to save the tank or some party members from some damage.

It could even add more dynamic battles in terms of enmity generation.

I haver seen this mechanic on 1 mob in the entire game.

The monk relic faction leve Coeurl had an aoe lightning attack that would trigger if you didnt incap its head/whiskers in time, it could recharge its whiskers afterwards though so wasn't a complete incap like with Chimera's tail.
